they have few options, better read and see how comfortable you are, I know it is not cheap if fully covered. Alternative if you have travel insurance, it will cover up to certain amount but not all.

You may want to try http://www.carrentals.com/. I normally use this web search to get the best deals when I want to visit Australia.
It has a strange system- the price fluctuates from time to time. I will normally book it in advance and if there is a drop in price, I will rebook it and cancel the previous booking without penalty.

Give it a try if you are interested.

From what I gather, this LDW will limit my damage up to AUD2750. This can be further reduces to AUD330 by getting Excess Reduction of 20+ a day.... pretty steep.

Go to Queen Victoria Market in the city. Is like a huge pasar malam. Shop until you drop. Things there quite cheap. Also quite accessible via train/tram. I bought bags and souvenirs there on my last trip.

But IIRC, is closed on Mondays and Wednesdays. Most other days open till until after lunch only, so have to go in morning.

If you are a coffee drinker and happened to be at Queen Victoria market, drop by this coffeeshop at 101 Therry St. Some ppl say it's the best coffee in Melbourne.

This is my 2nd time going to Melbourne actually.... I was there like 6 years ago. I remember staying at a serviced apartment along Victoria Street, near to RMIT. I remember having a nice vietnamese noodle along the main road...

Their police are very strict, TP or Police can catch speedster or what ever funny thing you try to do, becareful of their speed cams, sure activate once u above the speed limit even by 1kph.

Careful on the hook turns if there are any as well.

Ditto to that.. but only in the state of Victoria.. the allowance is at most 1kmh, and in the sub urbs, the speed limit changes from 1 street to another street, so you have to watch for the speed limit signs rigorously.

Budget is very popular, cheaper than Avis and Hertz. If need a GPS, cheaper to bring your own Garmin GPS (if you have one) to Australia, because to rent one in Australia is around AUD$10-$20 per day.

Watch out for the infamous Hook Turn.

When you collect the car, ask for the full coverage.

When i rent the XR6 with Hertz, for additional AUD20-30 per day, i got the full insurance. In the hertz counter lady's words "If you get into any accident, just call us and we'll send another car to you. You won't need to pay for any excess charges." biggrin.gif

that is the deal breaker part, the daily insurance can be as much as the daily rental laugh.gif

When i rented it, i'm still under 26, so there's an underage surcharge and it also comes with higher excess. So the $20-30 per day makes sense to me.. laugh.gif

Thanks guys....

After checking around, the price is just about the same, with the one from airport about AUD30~40 more (as expected). Only difference is availability of car models. I'll be most likely choosing a camry for comfort and fuel ecomony....

Price is about AUD330

Aiyo bro. Dun go to Oz and drive a camry la for goodness sake! Drive something u can't get over here like the XR6 - smooth & grunty 4.0L V6, loads of space and damn comfy. thumbsup.gif
