there's a lot of film tinting workshops around. just the front windscreen should be about $100 depending on brand and quality

Sorry to dig out this 2 years old thread on Crack Windscreen, as I don’t want to start a new thread on similar topic.

While driving along TPE, something believes to be flying stone hit the windscreen of my car and a crack appears on the left side of the windscreen.

Contacted my Insurer and was told to go to any of their authorized workshop to have the windscreen replaced at no cost, as my insurance policy is of comprehensive type.

I am considering to have my windscreens replaced at Tuffi Tech Pte Ltd at Sin Meng Drive – one of the authorized workshops (for Windscreen Repair Only) of my insurer. Just to check with those who have done replacement of windscreen, has any one of you been to this workshop? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Any workshop that specialises in windscreen change will do ; all are same more or less IMO.

Maybe the difference is some want you to leave the car with them for one day ; some can pre order the windscreen and you wait at their workshop while they change .

I prefer those that can change on the spot ( takes about an hour or two) and you drive off after that .

My car was sent to Tuffi Tech Pte Ltd at Sin Meng last year after CNY. So far so good. No issues faced. Windscreen still fine so far. Downtime was a half a day if i remembered correctly. Sent in on Sat morning, got it back in the afternoon.

What I saw before on how workshops replace the windscreen is quite horrific. I think they dun have the proper tools. They use a reciprocating hacksaw to saw thru the seal around the windscreen. You won't want to see them do it. LoL...

After removing the damaged screen they have to use a penknife to scrape the residue seal and clean the surface for the new bonding. They will place the new screen on the bonding and wait for it to cure.

If that crack is palm size it can be repaired. There are sponsors here who can do it. It will still be slightly visible under sunlight but better dan a windscreen replacement IMO. It's just a personal opinion. For me I would rather repair dan replace. Looking at how local workshops do it it's damn scary.

Thank you for the feedback. Btw, do they replace your windscreen with the original (genuine) windscreen?

Will depend on your car model. Best is go down or call them to ask.

Should be a half day job, if they have stock.

Usually need to go down and let them survey the crack (no need to do anything on your part). Last time only a little small crack (about the size of a fighting spider) but as insurance due for renewal the following month just change (1st time FOC). When collect car saw the "crack" covered half the entire windscreen! Little trick of their trade.

Overall quite easy and hassle free. Their workmanship also quite good.
