The tightening for employment is getting fierce, man. Going all the way to to plug holes and cracks. I can see, is going to be tough business environment for IT, banks' back offices and banking. Especially those have been abusing the employment act.

That is when a senior management(FT) in a company is authorise to interview and hire...

except when they have restriction, otherwise they will pick their comrades..

Supercharged

its high time and very long overdue

I really hope the garment will not just pay lip service to this.

If a business model is planned out depending on foreign labour, then the business is doom to fail..........

We should be seeing more businesses failure over the next few years. Normally, what the gov says, is for real this time.

Foreign labor brings the Govt and certain businesses money.

Hence there are people supporting.

But do ALL workers' salaries rise as a result of this?

Eg a doctor who can only see 100 patients a day.Does his salary rises after his quotas reached and there are patients he not able to see?

Obviously no.

Unless he raises fees and there is inflation.

We are already seeing inflation in this way.

Hurts the lower tiers.

Things are getting seriously wrong when it happened close to you....

My wife's Singaporean boss was retrenched a couple of years back.. great boss/ highly efficient... replaced by 2 FT which comes to work at 10am and goes off at 3pm. and now got their wives and kids to come over and stay here at expense of company.... and worse of all... when new hires are required... HR also only sent in FT applicants to my wife.. my wife shot back and demanded to see where are the local fresh grads applications... cut story short... new hires also from same village...

My case... used to be 80%/20% ratio... now I count... its almost reverse... with me the minority.. haha

My newphew... same case... department used to be all locals.. he is the only 1 left with the rest all FTs... no promotion/ increments for last 5 years... doing all the jobs and the FT do nothing... last year on my advice... tender... then boss cry mother cry father to retain him.. now got fat pay package....

Real FTs I have seen and work with.. but that was more than 10years back... nowadays... we are getting the other kind of FT as in T for trash....

But again we must remember that some good FTs are needed to remind those 10%-20% of locals that are non-realistics and skiving in nature. Good FTs keep them in check.

Tightening controls

The finance sector, especially some of the banks will have the bit the bullet.

It has been long time that this lax PMET policy had not only suppressed local's professional payscale and even career prospect in terms of HR hiring policy, but also compromise Singapore's long-term viability as financial hub without its critical core of local expertise.

It is high-time for Government to not only act, but also to re-examine the quantification and criteria of current foreign PMETs with inclusiveness of Singaporean's core.

it seems that the garmen is doing whatever it can to regain the trust that it had lost by allowing influx of these so called pmets, by allowing companies to employ ft pmets

i have already lost all trust for this pap garmen

it simply does not matter to me what it does in the coming years before 2016

because if it is voted back to power, it would simply do whatever it wants

Feel it is a Chinese issue more than a SG issue...

for the other nationality it seems, "We must employ more of our own so they all get good pay and life"

For Chinese it seems, "We must employ the cheapest otherwise i will make lesser money"

I don't see the value add of these FTs. What can they do better than a local fresh grad/mid level executive can't?

The talent pool is there, so i don't think that our viability as a financial hub is threatened.

Must at least confirm he is local, then sign up. :D If FT, make them talk until saliva dried up, then say "Not Interested". [laugh]
