Wierd Sony Xperia Tablet Z LTE 16GB Price in Singapore

The prices for the 3 flavours of long-waited Sony Xperia Tablet Z has just been revealed by HWZ Singapore. And it is very disappointing to say the least.

 

Sony Singapore prices with 7% GST:

LTE with 16GB - S$988.00

Wifi with 32GB - S$788.00

Wifi with 16GB - S$688.00

LTE premium over wifi=S$300 or 44%

 

Sony Australia prices:

LTE with 16GB - S$826.00

Wifi with 32GB - S$790.00

Wifi with 16GB - S$656.00

LTE premium over wifi=S$170 or 26%

 

Sony UK prices with 20% VAT:

LTE with 16GB - S$957.00

Wifi with 32GB - S$861.00

Wifi with 16GB - S$765.00

LTE premium over wifi=S$192 or 25%

 

What does the above tell you? I do not understand why the LTE version here is charged so much more than the wifi version. The LTE chipset use here cost more to make? Or the LTE version here is so much better than the wifi version thus the bigger premium? Or Sony Singapore think we are suckers that we will willingly pay whatever amount they dictate since we are LTE-siao?

 

I have sold off my tablets in anticipation of this tablet but now I am going to give it a miss if the prices indeed hold true. I will gladly get 2 sets of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 for myself and wife instead. Can somebody who has link with Sony Singapore bring this up with its management that we are not carrot heads? Very disgusted.

Isn't around the starting price of Note 2 10" used to be and without the LTE?

I am also waiting this tablet, but I can wait a while. maybe some price reduction later.

i'm using xperia z. i rather use back my samsung man...

When comes to pad, nothing beats the iPad (for the time being) unless you make phone calls on pad. And Sony is selling at such a premium price!

Not everyone into slim and sexy stuff .... My table is purely for wife to watch Korean drama at home.. never leave the home before .. so, really not interest... Even my smaller nexus 7 also has not step out of the flat before .. .... But if I'm the user, maybe but hey, what else can beat htc one? I'm contented with it and I don't need a tablet anyday...

Actually life has been very good to me. Kept getting better and better over the years. My current state has already been beyond my wildest dreams. If I am to complain any more, I will be very ashamed of myself for being so greedy, haha.

 

ok coming back to the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. My unhappiness has been with the excessive premium being charged on LTE version over the wifi version. Comparing to other markets like Australia and UK which levies about 25%, over here it is at 44%! If you are in the electronic industry, you will understand my frustration as there is no way a LTE chipset can cost so much here compare to other market. This is blatant greed at work. Anyway this is purely my opinion, you can choose to ignore.

the cost of doing business in Singapore is rather high nowadays. the price set is probably by either Sony SG or by the distributor and this price is set for dealers so that they can still pull in a decent profit margin per unit.

oh yeah! life must so good that nothing else frustrate u but a simple thing like a tablet....

 

Just happen that I was in consumer electronics, am still in another niche area of electronics, so I can tell you that price of component is hardly reflected in the retailer price except a few of them. It is pure a supply demand thing, a good example is that u can jolly go ask fanboys of the fruit brand, they will tell u its products worth every single cents of it! what greed u think it is?

 

Oh yeah btw, a LTE chipset cost the same in Singapore or anywhere else except the variation of some import duty if any, but then sony is not plonking in the LTE chipset locally so your frustration about LTE chip price locally is actually baseless....
