conti silent ? [confused]

I only know the VW Passat came stock with Conti Seal (marked on the sidewall) and many VW owner replaced their tyre to No Conti seal without their Knowing [furious]

Even my relative car sent to VSC for Accident insurance Claim they replaced for him 1 without the Seal tyre (very Disappointed as AG also can made this kind of mistake. at least 2 is still acceptable (in pair )

BUt as Insurance claim as AG they should only replace same as Original

just MHO

Reduces noise up to 9 dB is not a lot.

As expected most of their claims will be 50% fact and 50% marketing BS.

But if indeed it reduces 9 dB of interior noise energy, it is VERY significant. dB is a measurement in a log scale.

Typically, after spending hundreds or thousands on after market interior insulation, it would be considered very good if you could get a reduction of 2 or 3 dB of cabin noise at typical highway speeds. This is talking from actual first hand experience.

Changing from an average tire to a known quiet tire, I only managed 1 - 2 dB reduction at highway speeds. Therefore, I am actually looking forward to read the first user reviews of this new Silent Conti technology.

Every 3dB reduction is = to half the power so I guess it should be quite significant, but I wanna know how it compare to the XM2. XM2 is quiet but when the roads get rough, it's as noisy as any other tires.

9dB is significant!!! Considering at cruising speed, the difference between the most silent tires and the sports tires is less than 9dB... but it also depends on what kind of pitch intrudes into the cabin

BTW.. the first conti tires with ContiSilent will be the CSC5 tires on the Audi RS6.

It makes me wonder if I stuff my tires full of cotton wool prior to installing, will it kills off the sound or not

the heat generated from tyres could have caused fire. [laugh]

Not so sure if that will work but I did stuff the things you put inside a pillow (synthetic fibres) into the space between the metal and interior panels on my rear quarter panel...hehehe.. [blush] ...it does not help much at all. It is still in there anyway, since no harm done. Knocking the metal body at that location I stuffed the fibres, it did sound more "solid" , It sounded hollow previously.

Turbocharged

Between Michellin, Bridgestone and Continental.. Which will you guys go for?? and why??

depends on the driver and car type.

if you always slow driving, most of the tyres also can.

if you always speed, get a better and durable tyre for dry/wet.

It costlier to own a better car which provide more Safety features

But is more affordable to own a better tyre to enhance the Safety of your journey
