Hi All,

I have just placed a deposit for a 2nd hand car and the dealer had sent the car to Vicom for inspection.

there are 2 items with red words which require attention, there are;

1.Transmission box: gearbox housing oil seepage

2. Steering: swerving to one side

Although the dealer had promise to rectify all but i am still concern about item 1.

Appreciate advice from the bro here.

Thanks,

Is it a manual or auto car ?

Anyway point 2 is not so serious as point 1 but still need to rectify properly for safety sake.

Hi TVT,

Thanks for your reply.

It is a 6 yr old auto car. Does it cost alot to rectify it and I thinking of calling Vicom tomorrow to check on the seriousness of it.

Thanks,

small issue

change gasket, u going to do the atf / filter / gasket once u get anyway

alignment out, change tie rod/tie rod end , do alignment, might as well factor in 1k or so and do full suspension change with lower arm ball joint and barlinks as well

these are small issue, as long as u dont see stuff like failed turbo inside

(i hope u not buying a french car btw)

Point 2 cud also mean car had a bad accident n chassis is bent n sud b avoided. [nod]

If Point 1 is just need a gasket change than OK. If the sump is cracked/warped, then better avoid the car.

Both points cud b serious n not serious. [sly]

Yup, good idea.

Call Vicom n ask, and if possible bring the report to a mechanic (you trust) and ask for a 2nd opinion.

For my STA report, it says Transmission Housing sign of oil stain. is it a great concern? what should i do about it.

Also for the STA report shown to me by the dealer, all the itemized details only shows Pass/Fail/NA. I see some previous STA report samples have A/B/C/D grading for each item. Is Pass/Fail/NA the new format or there are some sections of the report that the dealer has not passed to me yet ?

Hi All,

I am a newbie here and intend to purchase a used car which was sent for STA evaluation. The overall grading was B, made with following remarks:

1. VEHICLE TRANSMISSION HOUSING SIGN OF STAINS

2. VEHICLE DRIVESHAFT GREASE SIGN OF STAINS

3. VEHICLE REAR BRAKE DISCS SIGN OF WORN

4. VEHICLE FRONT PANEL SIGN OF TOUCH UP

5. VEHICLE FRONT WINDSCREEN 70%

6. VEHICLE FRONT WINDOW 73%

7. VEHICLE REAR WINDSCREEN 49%

8. VEHICLE REAR WINDOW 57%

Should I be worried about the above comments? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would be concerned. However, seeing as how the grading is B - which is the magic threshold that all car dealers will hold you ransom to, you should try to negotiate for them to help remedy/rectify some of these issues.
