I am using Holux 61F for past 3 yrs, their device and map updates are quite good. They keep updating the maps every three months to six months, which is good and that too no extra charges needed. Service is also quite effective. I screwed up the device during recent map update and they flashed the OS and update, for free of cost.

Bro, I have used Sygic on my iPhone, Android and Tablet for the past 8 years.

http://www.sygic.com/en

For SG and MY Map is about $40 bucks. I bought the all maps at a promo $60 SGD last time.

It is extremely reliable. But I recommend that you standby a power source or use a secondary tablet.

For me, I have my Nexus 7. I have used it on my HTC one phone but sometimes its a pain when its time to use back phone capability.

I have used it in Washington, Singapore, Malaysia, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. You can even walk with it, No data/ internet needed. (Except for maybe when installing the new maps before you head for that country)

All GPS through device.

And when I change phone/ tablet, I just install on the new phone. No need to repurchase. Seriously you cant go wrong with Sygic. The interface is fantastic.

Since most of us have smartphones, getting a GPS app makes more sense to me.

I am using the native Apple and Google Maps to do the work. I also bought AGIS Navfone for SG and MY. IIRC, it cost me less than $5.

It's good to use a separate GPS, imo.

Imagine you are relying on gps, then suddenly somebody call and disrupt the gps. I do have gps software in my phone but I use it as a backup and when overseas.

I recommend a Holux with Galactio + traffic FM if you don't intend to use it overseas much because of lack of overseas maps.

With traffic FM, you can avoid critical accidents and check for parking availability at certain shopping malls. There are many features catered to Singapore/Malaysia roads.

It also uses Malfreemaps which is available on Garmin as well, which is undisputedly the best Malaysia map out there.

If you often travel overseas of course get a Garmin since it has the most maps available worldwide.

If driving overseas, phone app might not be suitable as you need data plan for it to work. Standalone GPS still works the best

That is provided your GPS has that map installed. What I understand is that we may be given a free oversea map, beside our SG map.

Data plan is mostly a need when overseas rather than voice plan, at least for me. I get to use the phone nav map and do messaging. Works well for me when i travelled recently to another country.

It abit troublesome without data plan however can set the destination earlier and save in favorite while on wifi.

So you can travel to your destination without having to connect thru data.

Hello there, I have been using Marbella Geomate 500 close to a year.

User friendly interface and easy firmware & map update.

I can say that it is quite accurate even on cloudy and rainy days. (Not sure is it true that such weather will affect GPS accuracy) Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you need a GPS for Malaysia, this is an affordable model that comes with Msia map and a reasonable screen size.

Cheers! [thumbsup][thumbsup]
