ok here's the reason

Fire at SingTel building causes outage in North and Western Singapore
SINGAPORE - A fire on Wednesday afternoon at SingTel's Bukit Panjang exchange has caused a partial outage in its fixed line voice, broadband and mobile services.

A SCDF firefighter who was responding to the fire tweeted at 3:41pm that there was a "big fire" at the SingTel's Bukit Panjang Telephone Exchange, which is located at 40 Woodlands Road.

SingTel said in an update on its Facebook and Twitter pages that "[they] are working to restore its services as soon as possible."

The first complaints surfaced on SingTel's Facebook page at around 3:30 pm, with SingTel customers complaining of disruptions to their WiFi, fixed line and broadband connections.

One Facebook user said that his line has been down since 2:30pm. The same user added that SingTel's customer care hotline was down too. SingTel's 1688 hotline was down at 4:30pm when AsiaOne called.

This outage appears to have affected users located at the North-Western parts of Singapore. Users from Woodlands, Teck Whye, Choa Chu Kang, Marsiling are said to be affected.

The fire was caused by an employee "not following strict maintenance procedures, including the use of an unauthorised blowtorch".

hahaha... 1 person can cause this mess.....

Hi-tech, high security data center can let 1 person to work inside.... [shakehead]

SingTel fined a record $6m for Bukit Panjang exchange fire; OpenNet and CityNet also fined

SingTel has been fined $6 million, the largest ever for a telco, for the Oct 9 blaze at its Bukit Panjang Internet exchange last year.

National fibre broadband network builder OpenNet and its business trust manager CityNet have also been fined $200,000 and $300,000, respectively, for failing to comply with safety procedures and restore services.

The hour-long fire that crippled essential services from banking to health records retrieval across Singapore was caused by the use of an unauthorized blowtorch by a SingTel staff when performing maintenance works. It sparked a slow-burning fire that went undetected as a result of further fire safety lapses and human error.

Concurring with some of the initial findings of SingTel's board committee of inquiry that concluded in December last year, the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) said on late Tuesday evening that "SingTel did not have specific contingency plans to address serious outage situations of such a scale as the incident".

holy shit $6M ....

expect price increase coming soon [:(]

I think the immediate effect will be the share price dropping tomorrow.

Then, Singtel will come out with all ways to recoup back all the money, with the backing of Temasek.

Likely, increase BPL charges, or their mioTv subscription. Then, they will ask some minister to tell whole world that this price is reasonable and justify by comparing to other countries ...

And the whole cycle repeat again :D

Who win? garmen lah

Who lose? all of us lah
