2813miles for Cannonball.

convert to km = 4527km

Roughly the distance from Singapore to Bhutan (next to Nepal),

I rather make a shorter drive to Guangzhuo/Shenzhen and spend some nights at Chiang Ping to hit the same mileage [grin]

Round trip from SG to Chiang Mai should be just about nice. But the 4 border crossing is gonna kill ya..

Dunno...guess would be a few k...depends on how many cars per container

hw much will it cost to ship?

Can also ship by road - but with the two borders is troublesome...dunno if can 40' all the way straight through - if can, four cars to one container possible, so the cost not so bad

How are the highways in Thailand? Reasonably good condition n scenic?

I guess 3 days to reach Phuket will be more relaxed, free n lazy if another day can be added?

i like the parts of NSHW where it passes through hills with up and down climbs!!! those between penang and ipoh come with such elevation changes.

do thai highways, as you said "challenging",wind through such hilly terrains aka thai-Alp?? this is what i hope to see, intead of barren, dusty highways.

Not as challenging as the alps - but yes, more winding between the hills and greenery.

One lane in each direction...

Very nice to drive

Very different to NSHW - you must acutally think a lot more

I remember a road trip to Chiang Mai hill sides many years ago. I can more or less picture the kind of roads now.

Is that good or bad?

I was actually quite pleasantly surprised about the quality of the roads - rather smooth, and mostly good quality
