HI Dynamics Mechanics team,

I have a 14 month old VW Jetta. with irritating creaking noise from the steering column when the steering is in operation.

been in VW 6time without any resolution.

creaking occurs when the steering wheel is turned, no matter if vehicle is stationery or moving.

they have mentioned that the slip ring is the cause of the noise and they have replace the ring 5 times. each replacement will last 2-4 weeks before the noise is back. front suspension mounts are also replaced as well in view of the noise.

no airbag warning light is present. car performs the way it should be over humps and bumps.

car is still in VW as of today. seems like VW is incapable of resolving the issue.

please help, TIA

Hi Sir Keith,

please dropby DM for a free check on your noise issues. We do have specialist to eliminate noise problems and it does require patience, experience and experts to 'fish' out the faulty worn parts. It might take a while.

It might be from your steering rack, underarms or linkage as well. Please dropby DM and seek assistance from our Manager Superman.

Cheers!

I'm driving a Subaru Forester 2.5XT, SH9.

Steering wheel keeps turning slightly anti-clockwise when driving (when I'm not holding on to it).

When braking, it turns strongly anti-clockwise.

Kindly advise.

I also have this problem can I come on Monday?

Sometimes after braking and lifting off the brake pedal, the screeching sound persists for quite a distance if I'm traveling at slow speed. If I travel at higher speed, the sound will go off.

Through visual inspection, I can see that my brake pads still have ample life in them. I also noticed that the screeching sound comes from the rear left wheel.

Any idea what problem could this be?

Thanks :)

Thanks for taking your time to seek technical advice from us. Few possibilities for your noise problem faced :-

1> Uneven wearing of your brake pads.

2> Inner Pads worn but you can't determine as it's hidden behind (per rotor disc has two pads clamming on it, see picture below)

3> Some unwanted stone particles or debris caught onto your pads and causing abrasion between the disc surfaces and your pads

4> Disc Wrap

5> Disc Worn and due for change

6> Louse Fitments of any brake mechanism
