An elderly man sustained injuries to his head and is now unconscious, after he was hit by a train along the MRT tracks near Expo station on Saturday afternoon.

A police spokesman said a call was received at 1.43pm, requesting for assistance at the station. "Upon police's arrival, it was established that a train had hit a man along the MRT tracks heading towards Expo MRT station," added the police.
The victim, believed to be in his 70s, suffered "multiple cuts on his body" and was conveyed conscious to hospital, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
A spokesman for rail operator SMRT, who was responding to queries from The Straits Times, said the victim was reportedly "seen lying close to the tracks between Tanah Merah and Expo stations" just a minute earlier at 1.42pm.

why can't the shit times just write that he is a jumper? Esp with screen doors at the platform? Why must write so many useless words to confuse the reader? Too embarrassed that the platform screen doors not working to keep people from suicide? From day 1 I knew the doors were too low... like a low wall thats easy to climb over if u really want to.. if SMRT really want to prevent suicide, go for 3M high wall la... cant scale over wat... wayang only, SMRt and shit times...

You can't have mouthpiece of the Gahmen report based on assumption right? What if it's really an accident and he's not a jumper? Maybe he had dementia and don't even know what he's doing?

This is not TRS where they practice "report and stir first, correct/remove later" tactic.

There is no 100% way to stop people if they want suicide. They will find a way.

The glass doors are to prevent accidents and must also allow emergency personnel to jump over if ever needed too.

If suicide Folks can't jump mrt, they can easily go Jump bus Lane jump HDB jump reservoir jump sea are we going to blame lta hdb pub env etc for not installing more screen doors??

Criticism must be fair la.

yes, the doors are to prevent "accident" not "suicider"

accident aka ... trip and fell into the track, looking at phone and walk into the track, children playing or unsecured baby stroller fell into the track, etc. if want to prevent suicider then must close all reservoir, secured all high rise building including hdb with fence, ban the sale of knife too? etc

i feel the height of the door is ok ... if one want to climb over it, it still take a bit of effort not like a 100m hurdles that you can simply jump/leap to the track

if the door is built too high ... it's aesthetically awful and intimidating ... feel insecure and like a prison
