This is the same distance as driving:-

1 from Yong Peng to Bangkok and back,

2 or 150km longer than from Singapore to Ha Long (Vietnam),

3 or more than from Singapore to China / Vietnam border

4 or 50km more than from Guanzhou to Harbin !!! (I checked Google Map).... [thumbsup]

The distance is the same, but the scenery isn't. Just like [gorgeous] , not all are the same. [:p]

The car rental company says our itinerary coverage is about 3400km. from Auckland to Christchurch, both me and wife is now anticipating this longest road trip of our lifetime.

Didn't go Queentown and Milford Sound ? Also the Glaciers at the West Coast?

Fly in Auckland and departure from Christchurch, after Kaikoura whale/dolphin watching and deep sea fishing, shall be driving over to west coast Hokitika via Arthur Pass, The Road Trip boss, bro Chris Cameron told us there are 2 roads from east to west coast, we can choose either one.

More likely will drive over by Arthur Pass to enjoys the scenery.

Yes, go by Arthur's Pass is most recommended.

When you at the peak of Arthur's Pass, stop for a while for a photo-shot. [cool] The scenery is very nice!

Good Bye, Sir's

Confirmed - SG license is fine

No need to send anything...thanks for the offer!!

Driving an SUV - no worries, you're an experienced driver, but just another reminder - be careful of the C.O.G when cornering - there will be a lot of corners with tightening radius.

If you get the chance - visit the Cookie Time Factory outside of Christchurch - if you're a cookie monster (like me) this is heaven.

Not sure if you will be buying many supplies - but do note that supermarkets generally have a pretty resonable selection of wines and beers, some precooked food etc - and when you buy they will normally give you a petrol discount for the "attached" petrol kiosk (must be used on the same day)

Be sure to eat Pineapple Lumps from the sweet sectiona and sultana pasties and mallowpuffs from the biscuit section.

And now shut up----I'm getting homesick

If you really wanna know - I give at the temple, but there was no need to talk about that right?

Your itinerary looks well planned out and covers all the main attractions in the South Island. Now is late summer and is also a good time for road trips over there too!

Drive safe and enjoy your trip, and the scenery too! [drivingcar][thumbsup]

Yep - there's two main roads, both are very very scenic.

Main point to remember, TAKE YOUR TIME.

When you look at the AA maps and travel times, it seems very slow, but in fact they're pretty accurate - by the time you enjoy the trip, stop and look and take photos it does take some time.

Do remember, that for roads like Arthur's Pass - a good average speed is like 70km/h - a lot of the time you cannot maintain 100.

I'm sure you'll have a blast!

Christchurch is my home-town!
