W212 owners, please check-in

Just got a w212 PFL, noticed the throttle has about 3 second lags when right after the gear is engaged, is this broken as designed or is it a defect? I have never experienced this with w211 or w204 before. I reemphasize, only right after gear is engaged, normal driveing, throttle releaseing and pressing no lags.

Check the ATF...not Normal...seems like Partial Slip due to low Oil Pressure...or too dirty ATF.

Just to clarify, there is no feeling of clutch slippage, it is the throttle delay to come in. Meaning the gas does not respond to the accelerator paddle. This does not happen to upshift or downshift, and it does reapond propserly when gear is engaged 1 or 2 second before stepping on the paddle.

any owner of W124 e200 or e220 over here?

Thinking of upgrading to W124?

Resale units are getting lesser, and it's hard to get one with less than 3 owners & in original stock condition. Proven workhorse, easy to get spare parts from stockists but fuel consumption can be daunting, at 8-9km/l. A cruiser and never  a sprinter.

Best example in resale market is probably this -

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=701806&DL=3034

Purchase at $5K and pay $52K to renew COE for 10 years, and probably another $7K odd for top overhaul, fresh coat of paint and upholstery. Grand total of $64K to drive a classic for 10 years.

Just a little more gets you a brand new bread and butter car, but the W124 is a distinct class of its own.

Just bring into a Specialist & check, prolong driving this way,may cause greater damage.

Went to Cycle yesterday, the service gentleman said this is a normal behavior for CGI when the gear is changed from neutral to drive. The workaround is to leave it engage at traffic light and put the car into brake hold. I asked if there is firmware upgrade but disappointingly there isnt.

Radio is advertising new e class with high trade-in and discount but i have no money....

In the first place, do not change your gear from D to N and back to D again at the traffic lights. This will increase the wear and tear on the GB. Just leave in D and hold the brakes.

Ya . you can actually step the brake further in and the brake will hold until you step the accelerator. kind of similar to other brake hold feature which is activated by a button.

do it if your leg is tired.

My poverty spec E300 got no reversing cam....

they never give you a separate reverse cam which is attached to the roof kind.. find it very ugly with those kind.

If you are using start-stop, isn't it equivalent to shifting gear to N? Is modern gearbox engineered to take that sort of constant shifting?

Usually when I run into a long traffic light (just turn red), i will shift to N although i was told not to. Old habits die hard.

Is it possible to still get one, say 10 years down the road?

It's still quite common now.

I am quite use to the transimission behaviour now and i begin to like the car more, but handling is too soft as compare to w211 avangarde.

By the way will it really increase the GB wear and tear when shifting gear between drive and neutral too often ? I have have completely never thought of this.

Thanks for sharing.

Start-stop is different from gear shifting. Gear is still engaged, only the engine stops. All mechanical systems will be subject to much higher wear and tear with start-stop.

I also like to shift to N if it is a longer wait at the lights, but I am slowing changing this behaviour.

Is your W212 running on Elegance or Avantgarde trim? Guess the latter is more to your taste.

I believe that the gearbox has a finite number of working cycles, and every time you do shift from D to N or P, the clutch plates goes into action.

Found some articles that support my view. This is one: https://carput.my/which-gear-is-right-at-a-traffic-light-drive-neutral-or-park/

Do change your gearbox oil periodically too.

Cheers!

Thanks. It is an Elegance cgi vs the previous w210 was a kompressor avantgarde.

Thanks for the link and advice. just did a full servicing not long ago, the previous service was done by C&C some more. I will adopt alternate service between C&C and workshop.

I may still have my Avantgarde springs around, if you like to have it, let me know. You have to get your own shocks though.

Not all ADs will change gearbox/differential oil especially if its not stated in their manufacturer's service manual. I didn't find any information about gearbox oil in the W212 owner's manual also. Check your service invoice to see if its done, and if not, i suggest you change it at the next service.
