From CNA: Fewer COEs next quarter, but more for cars

 

There will be 3,777 Certificates of Entitlement for bidding each month, down from the previous quarter's 4,019, LTA said.

 

SINGAPORE: The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) quota for the period August to October this year will be 11,331, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Wednesday (July 16). This means the monthly quota of COEs will be 3,777 for the period, down from 4,019 in the previous quarter.

 

However, the number of COEs available for cars has increased due to a drop in the monthly quota of COEs for commercial vehicles and motorcycles.

 

The monthly quota for Category A cars (up to 1,600cc and 130bp) has risen to 1,143 from 1,011 in the previous quarter, while the quota for Category B cars (above 1,600cc or 130bhp) is now 1,010, up from 966 in the previous quarter.

 

For the open category, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for bigger cars, the monthly COE supply will be 478, down from the previous quarter’s 586. Goods vehicles and buses will have a monthly supply of 515, down from 770, and motorcycles will have 631, down from 686.

 

The next quota announcement for the bidding period of November 2014 to January 2015 will be made in October 2014, the LTA said.

Why shrink commercial vehicle COE??? Such move would indirectly inflate cost of living in the already most expensive city to live in the world. Commercial vehicles shouldn't be involve in COE nonsense in the 1st place.

 

Motorcycles doesn't contribute to traffic jam COE quota 'boh tai boh ji' also kena cut!

They will pay for COEs based on the Prevailing Quota Premium (PQP) of CAT A under the Vehicle Quota System (VQS). This is irrespective of whether the new taxis are intended to replace deregistered taxis or to add to the existing fleets¹ . Allowing taxis to pay the CAT A PQP maintains a concession² given to taxis for their public transport role.

Second, the COEs used for taxi fleet expansion will be extracted from the Open Category (CAT E), which can be used to register vehicles in any COE category. This is more reflective of the role of taxis in our public transport system and it is more equitable to use CAT E quotas that are contributed by all vehicle types, rather than drawing solely from CAT A quotas. This also reflects the current situation in which taxi companies register a variety of vehicles as taxis, including both CAT A and CAT B models as well as some minibus models.

Only a small increase in Cat A - was expecting it to be much bigger than that.

 

Agree that stupid to cut Cat C - price already so high - but as the same time, I think more needs to be done to stop people buying Cat C and then using for private use.

yes, it's contradiction with govt policy,

they encourage ppl to use public transport instead od private car, but they cut bus coe quota and increase cars quota, definitely bus operators got excuse to increase bus fee again

school bus surely will increase fee soon, still have to drive kids to school by car, more congestion on road, farking brainless LTA

Overall impact to car prices might be negligible.

If there is no COE for commercial vehicles, the number of commercial vehicles on our road will surely shoot up exponentially. Trust me!

 

Motorcycles would definitely contribute to traffic jam, just that we did not have enough numbers at the moment to create the jam.

Just take a look at those developing countries which has a lot of bikes on the road.

most probably Cat C shrunk cause many renew COE for CAT C thus less commercial vehicles get scrapped. if you look at number of COE till 2019 commercial vehicles in sgcarmart, there are quite some, compared with 1year ago. meaning many renewed with 5year CAT C ever since the rules changed allowing for 5year renewals with no penalty.

this can become a loophole for those who register a company to buy COE-free lorries/vans

lorries are just part of the cost of running a business. And they take up space on the road as well.
