They know C class segment has bigger market than their XF. They should have done it so.

Seems like smaller car segment is the way to go hor? Mercs launched two compact cars recently, the CLA and the GLA. Porsche did it with the Macan and Jaguar is doing it with the XE.

The local AD had price the XF 2.2D for around $190k with current COE price.
How will they set the price for the XE.

My gut feel is that the current XF will be phased out by the time XE arrives. It is quite an old model. XE not likely to be cheaper than 190k if COE stays at similar level I feel. Am feeling so as the base model is a 2L turbo which is at least a C200 or 320 equivalent and we all know for such cars, the OMV is likely to be at least 37-38k or so.

Next new model for xf is due in 2016. XE is not a replacement for XF.
It is design to target general market

Only in 2016? That's quite long. This model was launched in 2008. Very long for a model to last for 8yrs.

If like that I suspect they will increase price for XF when the XE arrive. They can't be pricing XF at similar levels to XE. There has to be at least a 20k gap or so min.

Let's hope the XE will not be like the previous X type ... DOA.

XE and X-type are still sharing tech with Ford Mondeo, and possibly the S60.

Same as Audi, it reduces R&D and production cost, but it dilutes the brand.

Unlike Merc and Bimmer,.. you drive their cars knowing you wont get the same tech in another car (except for the lower A class / 1 series range which shares engine with Renault and Mini/Peugeot respectively)

New model will only release the "face" next month..

See the new C class & compare with the older E class..pricing is so close...

Believe the same will happen to XE & XF...

wah 8yrs is really unusual. most brands like Audi, BMW and Mercs rolls out new models after 6 years maximum.

Unusual maybe but take a look at the XF again, it's still as modern as any other new releases from other brands.

No wonder I find the XC90 design looking somewhat dated when I visited the Wearnes showroom 2 days ago. Din know is been around for 12 yrs already. Goodness gracious

Yes, that's true. The design is very sleek for a model that was launched 6 yrs ago. In fact some car releases of recent years also cannot match it.

XE availability in 2015 is in Europe or SG?

Unless Jaguar declare it under 130 bhp (don't think so), else I don't think they need to go through dyno test... I could be wrong..

By the way, will Jaguar XE-S model name kena banned by LTA? XE-S reverse become S-EX ??? Have to rename lor... :)

I have to agree that the XF is still the most beautiful car on the road till today ( Sorry to say this even though I drive one )

I first saw it in 2009 or 2010 but now it is still a head-turner everytime I drive it. Sometimes

I dread the attention that it is getting esp when I am with other girls except my girlfriend

I read before that Ian Callum (chief designer of Jaguar) said that Jaguar is never meant to be a mass market luxury model like Mercedes or BMW. Although XE can be pegged to 3er or C-class in terms of size, it wouldn't mean much to compare their sales volumes.

I read before that Ian Callum (chief designer of Jaguar) said that Jaguar is never meant to be a mass market luxury model like Mercedes or BMW. Although XE can be pegged to 3er or C-class in terms of size, it wouldn't mean much to compare their sales volumes.

I doubt so. XE is one of the most important model for Jaguar and the success (in sales) is very critical for the car company. Tata would not invest money into something that only a few people buy.

In Singapore however, it will depends a lot of pricing. Jaguar still carries the "expensive to maintain" image, so it is critical to get people into the showroom and then convinced with good offer for total ownership cost.

I am looking forward to this car.

Looks great but back looks a bit strange. 3.0L V6 engine taken from F-Type [drivingcar]

336bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6 from the F-Type; in the new saloon it should give 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds.

I don't think you are right. The XE has a brand new aluminium chassis, a new engine family, new wishbone-type front and rear suspension, and more importantly, its RWD. It shares no links with past Fords and Volvos. However, the basic structure and engines will be shared with future JLR models like the coming Jag SUV and the LR Discovery.

Back to the car, I think it looks pleasant, but lacks the panache expected of a Jag. Its too safe looking, inside and out, and unlikely to excite for long. And I feel that Jags must always have the crouching-cat-ready-to-pounce look. You only see that in the F-type now...

My take. Interior is similar to LR or Volvo. In fact new Volvo XC90 interior look more exciting.

Exterior it look too similar to the XF, which is a 7 year old design.

What's exciting about the car is all underneath, the double wishbone suspension, the aluminium chassis, the new XF 8 speeder (used by BMW), maybe the new ingenium 4 pot engine (not much was mentioned about the IL4 petrol 2.0L engine, but i assume its gonna be turbo charged to achieve the EURO 6 CO2 emission) ...  and possibly the driving dynamics.

But most car buyers are superficial... good looks always sells, no matter how bad the car drives. And that is something the XE lacks.

Provided it's priced correctly, right?

BMW and Benz are so entrenched so Wearnes would have to "undercut" them I feel to have any inroads.

I feel the looks for XE is quite great and it probably didn't excite as much as it should is because XF itself is a hard act to follow. The XF honestly looks extremely good for a car of this old. It is launched in 2008 but even a lot of the newer models launched in recent yrs din look quite as good. Hence, when they decide to release XE, it is quite a challenge given that although it is not supposed to be a replacement for the XF, it is not easy to come up with a design which will look more fresh and adventurous given the high standards set by XF. My take is that if we were to ignore XF as a model that is in existent and just look at the XE alone by itself, more customers would probably find the car looks appealing

I would have preferred them to design the car closer to the looks of F type or the previous XK. Tho any resemblence of the E type will always be welcome.

XF design language had been diluted after the launch of XJ and XF facelift. Something fresher is needed.

And i think Ian Calum is lazy when designing the interior. Much more could have been done.
