Camrysfa Turbocharged August 4, 2014 Share August 4, 2014 Think this case will become quite big worldwide. Some ethics issue. Who's wrong? Thai surrogate mother is believed to be very poor and took up the surrogate for the money. Now she is saddled with a unhealthy child. Australian couple is accused of abandoning the down syndrome child. They took the healthy one. Thai agency could also be faulted. World wide donations are coming in but how much can it help? http://www.smh.com.au/world/gammy-surrogate-mother-threatens-to-sue-australian-parents-20140804-1005fv.html Bangkok: The Thai surrogate mother of an abandoned baby boy says she will sue the Australian couple who left their son behind, challenging the child's father to appear with her on television. Pattharamon Janbua claims the biological father of the twins came to a Bangkok hospital after she gave birth six months ago and saw both children - the girl, whom he took home, and her brother, called Gammy, who has Down sydrome and is critically ill. But the West Australian parents have denied abandoning Gammy. The ABC quoted the unidentified father as saying a Thai surrogacy clinic doctor only told him and his wife about the girl. ↡ Advertisement
Camrysfa Turbocharged August 4, 2014 Author Share August 4, 2014 fact: It is illegal to pay for surrogacy in Australia, so couples have to find a surrogate who is happy to carry the child for no payment beyond medical and other reasonable expenses. The difficulty in finding such surrogates has prompted some Australians to head overseas for commercial surrogacy arrangements.
Camrysfa Turbocharged August 4, 2014 Author Share August 4, 2014 father has criminal record & the couple deny they are biological parents: The Australian father accused of abandoning a Down Syndrome baby born to a Thai surrogate mother reportedly has a criminal conviction for child sex offences. The man at the centre of baby Gammy's surrogacy ordeal was found guilty and jailed in 1998 for indecently dealing with a child under the age of 13, Nine News reports. His wife confirmed the conviction but said he was still a good man. The couple, from Bunbury in Western Australia, continue to deny they are the biological parents of Gammy and claim they didn't even know he existed until recently. Gammy's surrogate mother, Pattaramon Chanbua, has accused the couple of taking her son's twin sister but leaving him behind because he was sick. ExigeTan 3rd Gear August 5, 2014 Share August 5, 2014 It seems that David Farnell, the biological father, was convicted of six counts of dealing indecently with a child under 13 and sentenced to 3 years jail while he was already serving a sentence for two earlier convictions of sexually molesting girls under the age of 10. His wife (Wendy) is Thai - she might be a mail order bride from the sounds of it. I would have to wonder if he was deliberately looking for a girl baby for his "games"? It is certainly suspicious in the extreme the way that he has behaved.

ExigeTan 3rd Gear August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 Further update: It seems the dad has more than 20 charges of sexual assault - although the most recent is the mid 90s. Do you think there is any chance he has really "changed"? It also appears that the boy does NOT have any heart condition to worry about The parents are now also claiming that they wanted to take Gammy but couldn't

ExigeTan 3rd Gear August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 point is; can down syndrome be detected during pregnancy. Mostly, yes. There are a lot of tests and apparently, from the reports the doctors knew in the third month the boy had downs syndrome. They didn't tell the surrogate mother till the 7th month. When you do you regular checkups (at least here) the baby is checked for downs at least twice. (and there are follow up checks if you are particularly high risk or the first tests are ambiguous) ↡ Advertisement
