Stooky 6th Gear September 17, 2014 Share September 17, 2014 By Melody Zaccheus SINGAPORE - A reservoir the size of three badminton courts dating back to 1905 has been discovered by the National Heritage Board. Located off Telok Blangah Road, and not marked out in maps today, it served as a source of water for the Tanjong Pagar Dock. The reservoir, which is an oasis of calm and a green pocket in the built up area, also used to be a swimming pool during the Japanese Occupation, according to Japanese maps of Singapore. Remnants of a diving board and a bathing area still stand today. The place, known to some as the Keppel Hill Reservoir, made the news when two soldiers and a 17-year-old boy drowned there on two occasions in 1936 and 1948. The 2m deep pool of water, which has a working filtration system today, was discovered by a team of researchers from the board in February. The team spent four months piecing together more details about the site from old maps and news stories. A documentary on the place will be uploaded on its website on Thursday. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/abandoned-reservoir-telok-blangah-road-discovered-201409#3 ↡ Advertisement

Watwheels Supersonic September 18, 2014 Share September 18, 2014 I think what they meant that this pool is not in their archives. They realised it's missing on the map archive thus their "discovery".

Scion Turbocharged September 18, 2014 Share September 18, 2014 well, i believe there are some areas in SG that are overlooked maybe not discovered (or rediscovered), but due to abandonment for decades, they are forgotten and no longer in the official records eg this small piece of forest near TPY i think they discovered the tomb of Seah Eu Chin (one of Singapore's pioneers) inside the forest a couple of years back they discovered because the land was going to be developed for MRT line
Vid Hypersonic September 18, 2014 Share September 18, 2014 Wah seh... other than WW2 bombs, Singapore still can discover new places. ↡ Advertisement
