Looking for cheap mid-size car with 2-3 years left.

Realized that Cefiro, Mz6 and Legacy got lower depreciation.

My requirement will be:

1) Reliability to drive till scrap

2) Handling

3) Space for rear passengers

4) 5 seaters

Brand, Power or FC not so important for me.

Budget around $9k/year depreciation. Or should i get Civic 1.8 for its reliability? Looking to drive till scrap so re-sale value not important

Speaking from experience whatever Japanesre car left with 2-3 years most likely the engine needs replacement of seals and gasket. Coz around this time engine oil starts to leak. It's called the old car symptoms.

Mazda 6>Legacy>Cefiro, since handling is above (3). Mz6 and Legacy are generally quite reliable, no idea about the Cefiro but you might spend a bit more on maintaining the Legacy. For (3), I believe Cefiro is better in this aspect.

Sonata, Magentis, Epica will fit the bill...

I think Epica and Magentis are not as popular so can bargain harder....

If want Japanese, can consider Suzuki Kizashi, Teana,

If want Conti, look at Skoda Superb (older ones do not use the dreaded DSG), or Ford Mondeo.

I think for the above 3 cars, reliability and maint cost at 7-8 yrs, is really a matter of 'luck' and how the previous owners took care of the car.

Handling I would say legacy is best, but for space Legacy probably worst.

I think you should just go look at all 3 and if you find any 1 of the 3 in good condition* and price, take that one.

*assuming you have some rough idea how to check cars. In any case, npow got lemon law. Any big problem go back and complain. If no action, go small claims tribunal.

Kizashi, Teana are too new, looking at 2006-2007 rides

Sonata, Magentis looks too uncle to me....let me read up more about Epica too

Space wise Cefiro hands down, handling wise the worst... If space is most important to u, Cefiro.... Else 6 or Legacy

Mazda 6 has excellent steering feedback but exhibit more bodyroll vs Legacy (FWD vs AWD)... 6's rear space probably more comfortable than Legacy (personally i find Legacy sits too low...

Reliability wise really depend on how the owners take care of their car... Go for cars that documentated history....

A sonata or a magentis has a depre of 5k plus a yr. Excellent space and reliability however I still have some wear and tear parts to replace but the parts are dirt cheap. I bought one with slightly lest than 4 years. If you are looking between the cefiro, mazda 6 and legacy, I would choose the car with cheapest maintenance, legacy parts are going to be very expensive and running on timing belt followed by Mazda6 and Cefiro. However for cefiro go for the 2l which should be 4 sp and not cvt.
