2008 Luxury Sedan choice: Camry vs Mazda 6

Im looking to switch to a bigger car. Almost buy a 07 mazda 6 that i really like ( superb condition ) but was sold just before i could get rid of my car. Realise all the remaining mazda 6 2007 model in the market all shouting 10k+ depri and realise in that case I could go for a 08 1 sua...

short listed a few car and both their depri is between 11-12k range.

I feel mazda 6 looks more stylish, the interior also alot of gadget like pedal shifter and cruise control etc.

Camry i feel space wise is slightly bigger and also toyota quite well known for reliability. Alot of my friend say get the camry if same depri, as higher resale and less problem. FC should be better as well. However feedback is Im too "young" for this kind of car ( late 20s )but for me isnt an issue.

I was wondering if anyone face the same dilemma before? Dont tell me to buy legacy or accord, don't really like at all.

I realise for 12k+ depri can even get a audi a3 1.8 or 320, but I think continental at this price should prolly mean trouble lol.

Thanks guys

Reliabilty - Camry

Less FC - Camry

Style - 6

Drive-ability - 6

Gadgets - 6

Interior room - Camry

Resale - Camry

Less Ah-pek ness - 6

Score: 4 vs 4, so go with your heart.

You do not want me to recommend Teana which is very comfortable and scores moderately in the above departments.

Just search for "Camry" and "Mazda 6". So many discussions have taken place on them.

I had the same situation as you 2 years ago. I knew toyota is a more desirable marque and went to try altis and camry. The problem was I didn't feel the urge to buy them after test driving, although I acknowledged they are good, and finally I saw the 6, went on to test drive and immediately feel like owning this car. So I have been driving the 6 till now and still happy with it. I got the 08 2.0 GH HB.

I would say,

If drivability is priority = 6

If passenger comfort is priority = camry

My take is Camry esp if more or less same depreciation.

Older Mazdas FC is poor compared to Camry and size wise Camry wins IMO.

6 is more stylish and handles well but engine a tad rough.

The new skyactiv engines have overcome this FC issue but we not talking about those here.

But hey Mazda MIJ and about the only one left so quite sad on this!

Eh. no brainer lah seriously. Camry all the way.

Camry (without negotiation), most of the Sgcarmart will put as high 12+k to low 13k depre for a 5 year old car.

Mz6 really not even 10k/depre i won't consider.

An accord is around 11-12k/depre. how can ask the same for a mz6??

Resale value, interior space, refinement - camry

General reliability, FC probably comparable. Though i suspect the camry will probably win on these (educated guess).

Only driveability like a conti the mz6 wins.

But if u want a mz6, drive it to scrap or at the 9++ year then trade in.
If u try to trade in at 7-8 yrs, lol they'll just offer you scrap value ...

Driving a 07 Camry 2.4 since march.

Late 20s too.

Apart from ah-pek ness, no major engine issues so far except old camrys have the dashboard melting issue.

It turns sticky under hot sun.

The car is comfortable and very stable during high speed cruising.

I find the pick-up is a bit slow though maybe bcos I used to drive Civic. Haha.

Mazda looks nice but the OMV is very low.

Same as all said,

if same depre, just get the camry. anytime sell also very little problem. if you can get approx 2k/mth difference in depre for the 6, personally i will go for the 6. Well, actually I did.

Everything works as it should. FC I can get 12.5km/l, so balls to those who say Toyota confirm FC better.

the 6 has the dashboard melting issue as well, but doesn't bother me unless it drips to the floor.

My car has a 26k OMV. I don't think many Camrys have that. So there.

Do your research, but buy with eyes open. If you buy the 6, be prepared to drive it till COE runs out.

This is actually the crux. U will be forced to drive it till the end to not sustain a significant loss (if you didn't buy it 1st hand when COEs were 20k). If a major mechanical fault occurs at the 8th year, u will essentially be forced to repair cos ur car will have no resale value at all.

Logically speaking, there are more limitations than pros. Though i do like the style of the old mz6.

Most cars also same lah, imho. If it gives your major problems in the 8th year, its either you suck it up and repair, or scrap, and buy another.

yeah but if i sell a camry at 8yr old, i will get something back.

Nevermind, it's just a matter of opinions.

I understand what you mean. What I mean is, the cars will have had a different purchase price, have different OMV. You can view it like you have already had your discount when you purchased it (talking about 2nd hand). I must state I do not know how much more the camry will fetch over the 6, but I think all things considered, the real price different is really little, perhaps 2k? Not sure.

Thus, why I said go in with eyes open.

Haha, I waiting for you to come defend the 6!! :D

What took you so long lol!

Your FC is def good 12.5km/l [thumbsup] , last time I drive 3 get only 9km/l [thumbsdown]

If u ask for popularity factor, I think Camry wins definitely. Jus look at Spore road, do u see more Camry or M6. Singaporeans being smart & pragmatic people always buys what best for themselves.

But if u like M6, just go for it....

whao tats alot of responses. I was wondering about the sticky dashboard thing, if I wrap leather should be ok right? I work at tuas, insane sun everyday lol.

I also agree with the point with regards to older 6 dealer will offer scrap value, thats why my friend tell me to go sgcarmart and try my luck, offer paper value + a few thousand for their 6 and see if anyone desperate enough.

I gotta admit the 6 is very stylish and even thou i test drove the 07 version its still v impressive, the 08 should be even better.

Im gonna go view a few cars later and see how it goes
