ya. that's what we did. went to Bernard ee @ gleneagles.

haiz.

really must take care of health

Any emergency, go straight to A & E, resident doctor will get advice from on call specialist for opinion. Once under his care and think is expensive, downgrade from there under a med officer with supervision from the specialist. In any case PG card has special treatment discount.

I not sure if it is too late to post here but any heart issues, esp with chest pain, either go to a private ane or call 995.

Why? In pte the waiting time is less for the ECG and after TT if it is serious u can always request for transfer to restructured AND u know TT it is serious.

SCDF is because they have cardiac monitors there that can suggest if it is serious can can standby the hospital.

If you walk into a restructured hospital and queue, it might be serious. I have heard of patients collapsing while waiting to see the triage nurse though never during my shift though I had close calls, including one who became unresponsive during triage......

Anyway, the saying "time is muscle" is important here. Any delay means more heart muscle can die which might be life threatening.

All the best.

Hi guys.

Need some advice .

Father in law got blockage. May need bypass or balloning .

Private specialist v ex.

What are the options available ? Pioneer gen got cover?

1. Go polyclinic for referral then go govt hosp? How long would the process take?

2. Go a&e say heart pain. Got subsidy ?

Tks

Haizi

Is your father in law condition stable or unstable ? Does he feel chest tightness/pain, breathless, breakout of cold sweat, numbness or pain in arm or neck ? Angina is serious condition and may lead to sudden heart attack. It's better to go straight to A&E. I recommend go SGH as the national heart center is there.

If blockage is confirmed as you stated, they will either carry out angioplasty procedure and put stents to blocked arteries or if blockage is serious enough, they will do the bypass using veins from the leg .

If you want subsidized rate, choose B2 ward and below but you can't choose the doctor. B1 and above is private rate and you can choose the doctor where he/she will follow through your case.

If your father in law have medical insurance, the hospital will bill direct to the insurance company.

Hope this helps.

My FIL complained of tightness in heart 15yrs ago. Went through polyclinic, then referred to NUH, check-up (using those dye) specialist said all 2 main arteries blocked and 3rd one also blocking up.

Advised warded immediately to do bypass.

Now 70 plus still fit and healthy.

Ballooning is good if only one artery blocked, but has risked of blocking up again.

Bypass requires lifelong medication.

Pg card has three modes of referral.

Polyclinic, clinic who accredited with chas can also refer to soc, a&e can refer to subsided soc clinics.

It depends on what type of blockage and whether he's stable.

Thinks guys.

Let me go back discuss with wifey.

If go govt hosp a&e, got subsidy ? Or considered walk in?

Do take care Bro ...

There may be some tension here and there regarding the illness from a family member.. so, best is to remain calm and make decisive decision along the way...

Do comfort your wifey as well as give moral support to FIL and the whole family ... its this time that we stand up and shoulder all the weights..

All the best and hope your FIL recovers quickly

take care bro.

FIL got any hospital insurance shield or not? Incomeshield or something like that? if have, no need to worry abt polyclinic or walk in.

and this brings back the importance of buying essential insurance for ourselves. Insurance is not BS one. when u need to use it, u will appreciate it.

my own dad also had bypass about 8 years ago. he's still alive and strong now. [sweatdrop]

I already gotten him incomeshield plan way before his bypass situation. Went to Mt E to see specialist, refer him to SGH for bypass op. Total cost about $16K in B2 ward. Incomeshield cover 85-90%. I wasn't smart to buy rider at that time of policy purchase to cover 100%.

His was not balloning. its really bypass. took some vein from his forearm to replace the heart's one. there were 3 blockages.

Agreed that SGH is better. NUH is machiam like training ground...

NEVER go to NUH hor...... u go in, cannot come out alive........

i dont know whether i should say this online. But heck, i heard of terrible stories of it.

BTW, what are his symptons now? no breath? panting? dizzy?

this will determine the seriousness.

My dad's symptons was panting after climbing some stairs at work. Boss told him to see his specialist at Mt E. So that's how his problem was found out.

Is yr FIL a smoker?
