Why do people not move back in the bus/ recommendations

I want to get this off my chest. Why do people not move back in the bus? As a frequent bus traveller, I want to explain why it is not so easy to move back.

If you look at the below picture, you realise this is standard for SMRT buses. So why do people not move back?

1) With no space to put the foot under the chair, it is impossible for people to stand behind the other when standing at the back. Hence, people can only stand in a single file. Unless they are very small.

2) With the upraised end at the end, people cannot stand on it safely when the bus is in motion. From the outside, it does appear that the people do not move back.

3) With the curve at the back, it appears from outside that people are not standing closely to each other when in reality it is not always the case. It just appears that there is a distance between the standing passengers at the back.

It is true there are inconsiderate jokers around but the design of the bus is not helping.

Recommendations

1) Widen the standing space at the back

2) Have an overhead compartment like the tour buses so thart people can put their backpacks, haversacks and briefcases on it so that there will be more standing room overall. A lot of the space is taken up by the backpacks, school bags and so on.

I am writing this to SMRT also but tot of posting it here as well. Will update on outcome [bounce2]

Having overhead compartment like tour bus, will cause passengers to load and unload their barang barang and will incur a lot of time. Then the bus travelling time sure increase a lot more.

As for the narrow design, there must be some reason for it, as they must have been designed by experts in the field for many years after many iteration of designs.

The reason people do not move to the back is bcos

the exit door is in the middle so people don't like to go pass.

In Japan the door is at the back so people really moved to the back.

Why don't they buy buses with doors at the back.

I believe is last time people sneak in from the back without paying.

In Japan no one does things like that.

In the adult educational videos I watch they just try to help increase

the population of the country but never cheat on paying the fare.

Last time I take bendy bus, I see the end section is tilting upwards.

Who like to stand on a tilt ?

So most stand at the front where it's flat.

If the bus is flat at the rear, and the front tilting downwards towards it, I'm sure most people would move to the back.

And yes,the exit door should be located at the rear end.

Recommendations

1) Widen the standing space at the back - Where to put the wheels?

2) Have an overhead compartment like the tour buses so thart people can put their backpacks, haversacks and briefcases on it so that there will be more standing room overall. A lot of the space is taken up by the backpacks, school bags and so on. Security issue.

elderly people are singaporeans so give chance please....

can someone start blaming FTs and FWs?

:D

FTs fault la! certain cultures dont bathe as often... and like to cluster-F at the back... the aroma creates a force field that prevents normal ppl like us from approaching... [:p]
