Pope Francis: No Catholic need to breed like 'rabbits'

Good Roman Catholics do not need to breed like "rabbits", the Pope has said, but should practice "responsible" parenting instead.

Pope Francis spoke as he returned from the Philippines, where he met former street children abandoned by parents unable to afford to care for them.

Standing firm against artificial birth control, he said new life was "part of the sacrament of marriage".

But he said population experts advised three children per family.

Pope Francis raised eyebrows last week when, in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo killings in Paris, he said it was wrong to provoke others by insulting their religion.

He told journalists as a joke that his assistant could expect a punch if he ''cursed his mother''. At the same time, the Pope defended freedom of expression.

I like this guy, although I'm not Catholic, but he seems very forward thinking, modern, unlike the previous ones who give me impression of slow, dying, not doing much.

Standing firm against artificial birth control,

I have the utmost respect for this religious leader

and he stance on condoms.

I think those things are evil too and should not be used at all.

So I would like to start a new religion with the best things

from all the other religions.

Four wivies, alcohol, no condoms, fish and chips on Friday.

Forward thinking? No offence to Catholics, but while he's right in saying people should not breed like rabbits, yet stand firm on birth control, means the human urge portion is not addressed.

Too ideal... No breeding like rabbits, no birth control, no urge, no unwanted children...

The Catholic couples, at least in singapore, are taught Natural Family Planning method.

I hope we can show more respect to other people's religion

and to them if condoms are a sin and they are not allowed to use it

it is their right not to use it.

I respect all religions.

I believe to pull out and shoot outside is also a sin.

It is called the sin of Onan.

Onan's brother died and he married his brother's wife.

But he didn't want to get her preggers so he pulled out

and spilled his seed on the ground and it was considered a sin.

If I remember the story correctly.

I used to have a pet bird and I named him Onan

as he was always spilling his seed on the floor.

I am not sure this not having many kids is also correct.

All I know is its God's will to Go forth and multiply

and this is what people keep telling me when I am in my car.

But they don't use so many words.

I am a big fan of compromise and consenus

and maybe we can combine the wisdom of God and the Pope.

People should go forth and multiply but don't need to breed like rabbits?

Sounds good to me. I will add that wisdom to the new religion I wish to start.

Oh my gawd, you're on a roll... Had me laughing.. No pts to up you liao, but I don't think you care... Seriously.. You... [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

To those who says he's forward thinking, maybe he is, for a religious person / leader, I disagree. In fact, his words are somewhat contradictory.

He supports freedom of expression, but only when it is not used to criticize his domain (religion and religious people).

To him, freedom of expression is ok, as long as it doesn't cause offense. But offense is taken, not given. People are offended at almost everything at different times. Are they right? I'm offended at smokers who blow their smoke all around, but it doesn't give me the right to punch them. So why does it give him or anyone else for that matter, an obligation to punch someone else if they took offense at criticism of their own religion by others?

I do not support his version of "freedom of expression" (as long as it doesn't criticize religions or offend people), nor his version "non violence".

I shan't say too much more, because in Singapore, there are laws about religious harmony (which I personally disagree with, but I don't fancy a chalet stay).

You are absolutely right.

This is exactly what I saw on the Japanese adult educational video.

Land on the hair, land on the face and some even swallowed.

I am putting all these techniques in my new religion.

That's video is going to be compulsory viewing.

True religion obviously like mine

is about kindness, compassion and tolerance

and not about hatred, violence and revenge.

My religion is about free speech and anyone is

free to criticise anything they don't like about it.

We will never ask anyone who criticise us to be

shot or blown up or his head chopped off.

I welcome criticism as it is a basis for improvement

and anyone is free to draw any cartoon about it.

We just don't talk about free speech, we live it.

As for offense, there is nothing that anyone can say

or do they will offend us. I am sure some people will

think I am a crack pot leader and my religion is a false

religion but this has been leveled at every religious leader

and every religion and I am perfectly fine with it.

You cannot be about truth and love and take offense

about everything and want to blow people up.

The only blowing up I like to see is the type found

on the adult educational videos.

:D
