Please also remember to get proper insurance coverage during the period you rent out your car.

does it need to have a "different" insurance policy to rent out a car like that?

Apparently, not all insurance companies does such type of "sub-letting" of cars to 3rd party individuals because car is registered for private usage only, though LTA approves such practice from Friday 7pm - Monday 7am. What some owners do is they rent out their cars privately.. then add the hirer's name into the insurance policy.

I think insurance companies do not allow adding of names this way. Assuming you rent out your car to different people every PH/weekends, it will not be possible to add in different names at different times.

This might be possible if you have a stable hirer and always rent out to this person, then maybe you add in the name when you first buy/renew your insurance.

If you intend to rent out your car, I think if you go by the proper channel, it is not going to be worthwhile, as you will need to get special additional insurance coverage for the rental period. I checked before 6-7 yr ago, it was i think maybe about $100 a weekend. Add that to the rental amount, and it will be not attractive for the hirer to rent from you. Foot it yourself, and it's not going to make you any spare $$… The special additional insurance coverage is necessary even if you have a comprehensive policy, as renting out makes it become a commercial vehicle (c.f. to private car insurance policy).

So beware. Can choose to ignore this and just rent out, of course, but in the event something happens, then...

U got rental insurance boh?

Dun rely on the "I lend the car to my fren" excuse. If anything happen, do note that u hv no recourse under the law for anything that's 'illegal'.

TS talk about Icarsclub, so presumably not the first time he do this, possible that he already have the necessary insurance (not to say I am sure, just guessing).

Icarsclub does the insurance thingy for you.. but if you don't rent it out from that platform.. it might not be valid

Hope so. Some ppl tink if they make the renter sign some paper that they will pay for damages and all is well. If the renter knows the law, he can juz walk away w/o any problem.

Renting/lending of car to others during CNY have a lot more chances of incidents.

The driver will surely give the car a very "good workout" in order to maximise the usage. Trying to fit all the CNY visit locations and schedule, chiong is the key to fulfil this objective. And I have not included drinking in the equation.
