Adrianli Hypersonic February 24, 2015 Share February 24, 2015 Whichever route u choose, make sure the roads have been repaired after the Dec 2014 flooding/landslides. http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2665395-malaysia-gerik-highway-road-trip/?p=5372203
TVT Supercharged February 24, 2015 Share February 24, 2015 Route 4 or Route 8? And what's the drive time? 5 hours?? Any worthwhile stops on the way for sightseeing and restaurants? Both routes have different type of road. 4 has more flat roads, while 8 has mixture of mountainous roads (Ipoh to GM) and flat roads. I think both routes will take > 5 hours.
Neutrino Supercharged March 3, 2015 Author Share March 3, 2015 Just got to Kota Bharu from Ipoh. It took 5 hours along Route 8 etc. Road quite good condition but the further east the worse the road and the heavier the traffic until jams for about 5km from outside KB to .the center. Nice drive though and not tiring.

Neutrino Supercharged March 4, 2015 Author Share March 4, 2015 No problem with the road repairs. A lot being undertaken but no hold ups. The road from Ipoh to Gerik was very good. Less so west of Gerik but acceptable and no major problem.

Neutrino Supercharged March 4, 2015 Author Share March 4, 2015 (edited) Interested to know......did u drive non stop from Ipoh to Gua Musang & then to KB? Oops sorry we went the route 79 route 4 way. I'd say my mistake but my missus was navigating Anyway the State museum in KB has an exhibit showing photos and stuff from the Dec 2014 flood, just 2 months or so ago. It must have been really awful living here then just judging by the photos. I didn't see any stuff on the TV in Singapore at the time. We went to the sea food restaurants on the beach last night and ordered ikan Bakar stingray plus some other stuff. After 45 minutes all we'd been served was our lychee drinks. My missus asked if we would be served shortly as the only others in the restaurants had been served before we arrived and were leaving. Well after at least an hour someone came out of the kitchen to tell us they didn't have any more sting ray Edited March 4, 2015 by Neutrino

SG --> Kuantan --> Kota Bahru --> Ipoh or straight to Penang --> Melaka --> SG Or the other way round. So can only do 1 route.

I did something like this too, in a counter-clockwise rotation SG-KL-Bentong-Kuantan-terengganu-kota bahru-penang-melaka- SG the gerik highway is a nice drive other option is to cut into south thai via Golok and head to Hatyai before returning to Msia via Sadao (or the other way around if clockwise) btw KB - Ipoh is a pretty long drive (in terms of time) that's why I decided to stop by penang instead Edited April 30, 2019 by JohnSHL
