Fellow MCFers

My In car cam capture the whole incident..

My car was parked behind his along this parallel parking car park, he reversed too fast and hit my front bumper ( damage : paint peeled + scratches ). Happened yesterday night and i discovered it only this afternoon...call my insurance firm and they say just make a police report and then go AD to get the damages repaired. Shld i make effort to contact the driver and ask he/she to compensate me rather then just go straight to the police ? Good advices needed...Many thanks in Advance !

1. By right you have to make police report for hit and run cases

2. If you bring back to AD for repair, you have to claim your own insurance first then tell your insurance company to claim against the hit and run car, AD will not accept repairs for third party claims. You do have your video as evidence but even so, your own NCD will be suspended until the case is settled. Expect to take few months or even a year.

3. Paint peeled and scratches only, why waste time on the repairs. It may not even exceed your insurance excess.

Sound like TS is repairing the damage which was done to his heart or ego, not so much on his car..

You reported to police via online?

There is a function to submit video on their portal...

Because of this new law requiring drivers to leave their particulars or making police report, I have heard quite a number of people teaching others how to go around it. When you hit a car, don't come out and check damage. Just drive off. If police ask, can say never realise you hit something.

Second point is not entirely true. I too was a victim of being rear-ended and chose to do a self-claim as my vehicle is serviced by the AD. (In fact, I started a thread on it to seek advice from fellow bros here.)

The case is still pending because my parts are not available in Asia. As my insurance is up for renewal. AIG - my current insurer - continued to provide me 10% NCD without increasing my excess. The current quotation is actually about 20% less than what I paid last year when I first bought the vehicle.

I'm told all insurers have access to a database which includes any reports you file when claiming insurance, and links to video clips (if you have them and you upload them onto Youtube like I did). When quoting you your new insurance premium, they can view it and determine if it's truly your fault or not.

In your case, if you're stationery and unless you were parking at a place you shouldn't be parking at, then it's clear the fault lies with the opposing driver. The insurer has a choice to offer you normal rates without taking into account your claim. Of course if your case is unclear even from the video clip (50-50, side-swap, etc, then they will suspend your NCD like what Beehive said. But from what you described, you seem completely innocent here.

As for Beehive's 3rd point, I have to disagree completely. It's his new car and he has every right to restore it to its former glory. We're not talking dinks and paint chips here, which are inevitable. How would you feel if the same happened to your own vehicle? Abit "bo tao nao", what you have said.

Good, your tao nao very gao?

Disagree with my post is ok, but to call names because of it reflects on your own upbringing.

At least your cam caught the bugger. My cam does not have parking mode and was recently hit & run at carpark. Left rear door dented and scratched. Gotta repair at my own cost...

Looking at front & rear cam now with parking mode... Yi Fan Wan Yi...

But according to the law, the person who hit the car need to make a police report if the owner of the car he hit never contact him within 24hrs. So after leaving this kind of note, still got to make police report if not considered against the law leh.
