As expected from my thread title, I drive a mitsubishi lancer. I'm not very good with cars specs to be honest and I've been driving this car for nearly 9 years now.

I've had very few issues with the car even though I've closed nearly 300k of mileage. Is Mitsubishi not as popular as other Japanese car brands? If so, how come?

Genuinely curious.

From your 9 years until now, What new car model have Mitsubishi launch?

Their showroom have Lancer, Outlander, ASX (Only 3 models?!). Look at Honda, Toyota, Mazda and Nissan and see how many more new models/facelift they have in the space of 9 years.

I was looking at ASX and the Nissan SE say the above. At the end, I didnt get Mitsubishi or Nissan.

Mmm that is true. Is there any reason why Mitsubishi has so few new car models?

Honestly, I really like my lancer. Sure it's not powerful but it's really reliable and compared to the Vios and Altis I've had the chance to drive, it's quite quiet. The fuel economy is so-so but at least it has only broken down once in 9 years....and I'm quite bad at maintaining my car haha.

Turbocharged

I'm sad that I didn't get to drive one of my childhood dreams; Galants with VR-G kit in Pyrenees Blue...

But anyways Mitsubishi kind of lost touch with our market since 5 years ago with almost no new or interesting models since Lancer EX...

I guess that's why they are not mentioned much here anymore... only sold like 5 cars last year?

Maybe also have to do with C&C. For example Galant latest gen came out in 2009 but we never saw it here.

Mitsubishi didn't really launch much models globally since Lancer EX that I know of, so I dunno really how it's going on between C&C and Mitsu.

Yea I liked the Gallant haha. Looks like I'm going to have to buy another brand when I scrap my car. Bye bye Mitsu [wave][bigcry]

Turbocharged

Mitsubishi is facing some crisis globally and even domestically since the 2008 financial crisis.

Ralliart, their sporting arm, closed down.

Their flagship model's have not been updated for edges.

Their sales in the european arm decline due to stuff competition and their news line up receive lukewarm response.

Their Australian plant closed down due to losses.

Their last Evo X just rolled out of the factory.

The Mitsubishi now is so different from 10yrs ago, I felt they lost their soul along the way.

Having said that, my 7yrs old Colt turbo is still as reliable going strong compare to my other car. So far only my MAF sensor blown and cooling coil leak, the rest is just wear and tear.

That's the thing, the cars are pretty reliable and I like that. Cos I'm a stock kinda guy, that's why I like everything running smoothly as I won't rock the boat..erm..car.

So sad. Now I gotta go car shopping.....anyone want to have car shopping outing lol

Mitsubishi could potentially become the Lancia of Japan

just as tabolt in France....i actually sat in one before in the 80's. All that i remember is the comfy cushy seat and painfully slow.

Not sure what happened to them but I know from friends and also here on MCF that their Outlander is selling well and is a reasonable good car sold at a fair price, 5+2 SUV MIJ, check it out!!

But in the last decade they seem to do well in Asia. Apparently not so in US and Europe. For now I think only their commercial trucks can sell.

I remembered the days in the late 90s where the Mitsubishi spacewagons (and later on the Chariot) and the Lancers ruled the roads. The 98-99 Lancer was such a looker and as a kid I loved to count the number of such models I would see on the roads when I went out.

Sad to say, these days the only Mitsubishi I see are a handful of Colts or Gallant. I really like the look of the Outlander, but does not suit my family needs. Hoping to see more models in the SG market in the future.

Used to thk Mitsubishi is the poor man jap aft Toyota n Honda where parts r less durable n low quality. In the 90s my dream car was the Sir 160bhp. Then came a lancer MR with purported 170bhp but in reality stil gets smoked by the civic every time haha.

But aft 9 yrs on a lancer, all I ever changed were 2 batteries n 1 timing belt. I wil not hesitate to buy one again. :)
