ins1dious Turbocharged January 25, 2016 Share January 25, 2016 Holy sh1t.. I think I should consider disabling my car's airbags. In another thread (can't remember which) in mcf... there was a member who couldn't understand what the fuss about the Takata/Honda scandal was... as according to him... the product was up to spec and the company didn't deliver a faulty product globally. Now 10 deaths... shredded evidence... 14 affected brands... total worldwide recall of 58m vehicles.... begs to differ. Anyway... why disable in your car? Is it one of the affected models? I know Merc and VW are now also included in the recall list.... but not able to find models. Also following is from US media and NHSTA sources... not able to find worldwide numbers or brands. Beehive3783 Turbocharged January 26, 2016 Share January 26, 2016 Hmm.. thanks for the list. My humble kimchi car is not in the list. But still, I never liked the idea of a bag exploding in my face in the event of an accident. They are useful... I've had the unfortunate experience of being in one... a friend of mine drove into the back of a van with his Mz6 at 40km/h and the airbags deployed. My ears were ringing and it felt like my face was on fire... hot gas maybe? But nothing broken, no concussion... only thing left to do was step out of the car and slap the fcker for being a shitty driver.
carchat99 Neutral Newbie February 1, 2016 Share February 1, 2016 The Takata airbag problem was reported in local press a few times in 2015. One key brand affected is Honda. If one buys car from Authorised Agent, such recalls would be managed by them without cost to car owners. Anyone knows how this is handled in the case of buying from a PI? I tried contacting Prime Cars Credit Pte Ltd recently on this matter and the person answering the call declined to comment. The reason given was that they have not encountered any car manufacturer recall before and they won't know. Would a company depend on an actual recall incident before laying down policy on how to deal with a recall? Anyone on this forum can advise or share experience? Thanks. Well,P.I. bought the cars from dealers in japan,so not covered, actally the Dealers in Japan can only sell their stock in Japan, hence it is called JDM[Japan Domestic Model],these model are not suppose to be exported.....

So meaning have to ownself order the part and pay, ownself look for mechanic to install and pay for labour? After that ownself check ownself? I think that's the only way. Since buying the car from PI is cheaper but everything else gotto ownself pay...including recall. It's somewhat fair.

ER-3682 Twincharged February 2, 2016 Share February 2, 2016 That is why JDM models cannot buy from Agent,Agent buy direct from Mfg,not from Dealers there..also P.I.,cars inside all instruction written in Japanese, now you know the reason why.even the Radio is not the same.[for example 90.5Fm,in a P.I. car is something else. cllq 6th Gear February 3, 2016 Share February 3, 2016 Maybe let me share my experience. I also received a letter from Borneo Motor informing me that there is airbag problem with my car, Vios NCP42. So in the letter it state that my car is one of the affected model. And ask me to wait for the next letter from BM for the date they schedule for the change. I called up Leng Kee BM and scheduled a change within 1 week. The change took 2-3 hours and I was given a complimentary car wash. Dont be shy to call up the AD. Ask them to schedule on spot if you have worries or concerns over the issue.
carchat99 Neutral Newbie February 3, 2016 Share February 3, 2016 Thanks, ER-3862 for the information on buying from PI. Consumers are faced with problems when AD tend to import Japan cars made in countries other than Japan. Sometimes quality poorer. Like the Honda HRV vs Honda Vezel as an example.

Yes. I believe its a private tie-up w/o the manufacturer in the loop between the Jap dealer & the SG businessman. So in terms of warranty claims, it depends a lot on the relationship between the above 2 parties also. If you get into an accident for instance & certain not-so-easy to obtain major parts are required, the down time could be extensive. However, where there is $, there is a way... The upfront savings from PI for the same model is like your casino chips. Owner's manual in Jap yes. In this case, are the recommended specifics within ....also taking only Japan's operating conditions into consideration...? To add, Japs change their cars fast.
