every politicians are greedy. everywhere are fighting for power.

there are hidden gems and benefits other than just eat money that commoners like us will never know.

There is so much money to be made, buy sell buy sell, left hand, right hand and tons of money rolling in (when govt has control, full or partial, over buyers and sellers, hosay liow). That is why politics is so dirty everywhere, nothing is sacred... race, language and religion are and will be used to help poltiicians stay in power.

You need strong institutions that is really apolitical (anti corruption, election committee, justice department, strong civil service, etc) to ensure long term prosperity, otherwise you need checks and balance among political parties.

Yahoo latest news : Malaysian leader faces risk of criminal charge over funds

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak is facing the risk of a criminal charge over allegations that millions of dollars were funneled from an indebted state fund to his personal bank accounts, the first time the country's leader has faced criminal allegations.

The attorney general confirmed late Saturday he has received documents from an official investigation that made the link between Najib and the investment fund 1MDB. The existence of the documents was first reported by the Asian Wall Street Journal on Friday, showing some $700 million were wired from entities linked to the fund into Najib's accounts.

The documents sent to the attorney general pave the way for possible criminal charges.

It is also one of the worst political crisis for Najib, who has come under increasing criticism over his leadership. He has denied taking any money for personal gains.

"It's damning and disastrous for Najib," said Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who heads the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs think-tank.

"This is really unchartered territory in Malaysian politics. For the first time ever, we are seeing a prime minister facing the possibility of a criminal charge," he said.

1MDB ,set up by Najib in 2009 to develop new industries, has accumulated 42 million ringgits ($11.6 million) in debt after its energy ventures abroad faltered. Critics, led by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, have voiced concerns about 1MDB's massive debt and alleged lack of transparency.

The Wall Street Journal report said five deposits were made into Najib's accounts and the two largest transactions, worth $620 million and $61 million, were done in March 2013 ahead of general elections.

Najib has slammed the report as part of a "political sabotage" by Mahathir to remove him. Mahathir, who stepped down in 2003 after 22 years in power but remained an influential political figure, has been leading calls for Najib to step down.

1MDB also said it has never provided any funds to the premier.

However, Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail has confirmed that a task force investigating IMDB for alleged impropriety has given him papers "including documents related to allegations of fund transfer into the account of the prime minister."

Abdul Gani said the task force had raided offices of three companies linked to 1MDB that were allegedly involved in the fund transfer. He didn't give further details on the documents nor say what actions would be taken.

Najib's deputy, Muhyiddin Yassin, also said the allegations must be investigated because they tarnish Najib's credibility and integrity.

Opposition lawmakers have said Najib should go on leave and also declare his assets.

Home Minister Zahid Hamidi, however, said Sunday the allegations against Najib were "reckless" and "bordering on criminal offences," as they were based on unverified documents. He warned police would "not hesitate to use the full force of the law against those who attempt to harm Malaysia's economy and our democratic process."

"Even if nothing comes up from the investigation, the damage to Najib's reputation has been done. The pressure for him to step down will increase," said Wan Saiful.

Najib, the son of a former prime minister, took over the premiership in 2009. He has fought criticism over his management of the economy, and being implicated in the murder of a Mongolian model nine years ago. Najib has said he has nothing to do with the model and two security officers linked to Najib at the time were found guilty of her murder.

Just wait and see. .. this is very serious for Singapore.

Mahathir wants back in on power. If he gets his crony in power, he will stir all kinda shit... starting with bridge and water.

I don't think so la. That old man is sibei old Liao. Even if he makan tongkat Ali every night also ready to kick his nite soil bucket soon.

Bridge....we will never agree unless we benefit too. Water.....not an important strategic asset to Singapore now as compared to our early years. Good to have but not critical.

Who takes over Malaysia is most likely to be same old same old.

We only have to really really fear if a honest, clean, smart and efficient leader took the helm as the new PM. This is not goin to happen any time soon......maybe when we celebrate our 100 years of independence.

For now, sit back, relax and enjoy the show. It has not even started yet.

Those jurong country club members already balls dangling. Who wanna bet that the site will be an empty plot for years to come... Hahaha

Or maybe looking at the situation now, the govt will do a year by year lease extension. Else public funds used to acquire the land and leave it empty for what.

Even if no HSR, the Jurong Country Club land expiry is in 2035. Most likely no extension, The govt has plans to do other things there.

Under some legal stuff, JCC has to pay some 196 members $120k in 2033. Some of these members bought their membership for $69k in 1998. One member revealed he bought over another of such membership for 64K recently.

Dr M die die wants the crooked bridge by hook or by crook. He already sudah ambil and makan the kickbacks many years back during the financial crisis. This was so he could help his other son whose shipping business was in crisis during that same period. The contractors who were supposed to get the bridge job have been hounding dr M for money back.

Know why Dr M gave Singapore so much problems during his term of office? He wanted a Billion$$ private loan from LKY to help his son. But LKY turned him down unless the M'sian govt. guarantees it. Dr M refused, so he went the crooked way and started to cause all sorts of problems for us.

build the bridge.. Tun Abdullah says no unless you give part of what you makan. Dr M plot his downfall.

thought Najib would be more obedient. But Najib also says kasih sedikit lah boleh? Furious Dr M tells Najib I'll get you a kelantan wau bulan kite and you go fly it.

i think nowadays the politicians not so straight forward and resign with head down in shame type , he maybe knows he is going to be screwed so just let the show drag on until "sampai tuah" and thinking that the fellas digging up on him will hit the wall (he will put obstacles) until they loose steam and on some technicality (lack of evidence as he might have paid many along the way ) he gets acquitted and by then GE comes and he losses/ steps down and the public are the losers again.

Najib didn't say the accts are not his, just that he didn't use 1MDB funds himself. Maybe they're not for him only but a collective coinbox for heavens knows who.

His wife could be somehow implicated. Usually the flashy and controversial character, hard to totally trust. Like the time Chen Shui Bian and his wife. My guess only, no evidence.

"This sum totalling US$681,999,976 (RM2.6 billion) was transferred into his private account just days before the calling of the GE13 election in March 2013."

"Finally, are we now to assume that a chunk of this money was sent to the Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal accounts to cover the GE 13 election expenses?"

I usually pays RM150 for my erections :shy: in Malaysia, Mr.Najib needs [:/] extraordinary USD$700 millions to solve :a-no: his erections, I wonder [rolleyes] what's making it so super expensive :o
