Lifespan of Shock Absorbers and Mounting

Recommended Posts

the original stopper is meant to be progressive in depression force so that when you bottom out it is not so jarring.

If the mechanic put this PU stopper, once you bottom means is a damn hard "thuc!" sound and car will vibrate accordingly.

But I guess no choice if want to put bigger and wider rims/tyre so that you will not bottom out so often. the shock lifespan will deteriorate very quickly as well. But I guess good business for the workshop.

not true.. always me and my wife most of the time..

I'm on wider tyre, 195..

the stock tyre should be 175 only..

anyway look at this, saw some Malaysia mechanic are doing this for wider tyre.

basically they insert a PU stopper while removing certain portion of the shock stopper.

you lowered your car too?

Depends if you are experiencing any issues with your current rim/tyre/suspension setup. If you are not experiencing any tyre rubbing the fenders or frequent bottoming from the slightest of humps, I guess you can give it a miss. Converse is true too.

nah..

stock set up, just wider tyre.

basically without any passenger in rear, it is ok.

once I got 2 passengers at rear, the right wheel will fit the fender.

is there any good brand of absorber.

currently on kyb excel g, thinking of going this proride heavy duty absorber

my take is if you change 1 item by 1 item... it will incur more cost.....

suspensions takes a lot of beatings so if now change stopper, maybe next time absorber leak or bushing gone.... etc

since renew COE liao.. i will just change 1 shot.. save time also

In this case there are other options such as rolling the fender.

My experience is mainly with bilsteins. They are good even with stock springs. Firmer ride with much better body control without sacrificing much comfort.
