hi guys.

been offered a 2nd hand bmw 730 abt 5yr old

any advice on the reliability and other stuff i should look out for?

thanks in advance!

I suggest if u have deep pocket and ready for the repair cost, u shud grab it. Power is there, handling is good. Spacious and looks great.

Btw if u notice 2010 740li resale price very worth it compared to LS, S or A8

Also can ask vellfire cos he own 730Li i think

And VM who replied earlier.

Get it thoroughly checked by specialist workshop.

Please take note that purchase of used BMW is a journey. Don't expect it to be like buying a lexus.

Sometimes check also no use

Mine check ok, drive 6 months my bmw fall apart lol

about 86k km

for 5yr old should be around there bah.

any lower i would be damm suspicious. lol

When u mentioned 'offered', I take that it's from people u know?

It's good to know the driving & maintenance history.

At 5yrs & 86K mileage, you may have to change battery, tyres, brake pads....just to name a few basic wear n tear issues. Others like change of engine mountings, gaskets, housings will be added on when u send for servicing.

For my BMWs, every time I sent them for servicing, bound to have some replacements of sorts, due to to wear & tear. You have to be prepared to foot bill of around $1K or more each round.

That's why i said purchase of BMW is a journey.

I spend $2k to do inspection II service. 3 weeks later, voltage regulator of alternator failed.

No regret on my close to 4 yrs ownership of E39 520. On highsight, i would love to get my hand on E39 525 or 530.

Not just about costs of parts......labour is expensive too.

Anyway, whatever the make of car, even if functioning well all these while, 5 yrs old is time for parts to be worn out, loosen, etc. Whether any major issues that cropped up afterwards, depends on your luck.

And buying a used car from colleague may be recipe for souring relations. IMO.

The thought of owning & driving a BMW, what more, a 7series, is like dream come true for most people..........Sheer Driving Pleasures!

If you want to realise your dreams, then go for it with your eyes wide open & deep pockets.

Call up Eng Soon & ask them the price of a basic parts, like oil filter. Compare it to your current car.

The reason BMW has much more wear & tear parts is because the car is running at 100 deg Celsius. Most of the parts are made of plastics.

My car about 3 years old only

Warranty just over then all problems come out

Ignition coil, fuel injector, battery, transmission fluid, servicing 2x about $1k

Have yet to change the low profile 20 inch tyre which is due to change early next year. Expect tyre alone cost $2k lol

Oh yah i normally check on eng soon or goldenlink for stockist

Been driving a second hand F02 740Li since CNY.

This is a great car, everything you need is here: space, comfort, handling, acceleration, etc. I changed to this from an Audi S5 4.2L V8 quattro AWD and initially was disappointed (duh) with the F02. It took some adjustment to fuly appreciate this car. I also used to drive an E65 730i (short wheelbase) and that car felt much more nimble than the F02, but I have since gotten used to it.

A tip: switch off DTC and stability control and this car rocks. Even keeping it in "normal" mode.

Sport+ mode would be a little too much, it drags on the fuel economy as the programming keeps the revs high on lower gears.

Rear suspension are air struts, front ones are normal gas struts. To replace the air struts, there are alternatives to PML if you want a better deal.

I have replaced only DME and water pump so far. These are the problems common with the N54/55 turbo engine. Maybe yours, being the NA engine, may not need.

Still enjoying it!

Didn't know u had s5 previously. I might be looking at this ride next, any issues to look out for? :D
