Parade has just begun after Xi's speech - a surprising one when he announced China will reduce its military troop size by 300,000.

China's stock market crash, future economy outlook not so good. Better cut down on military spending.

don't understand why china put it as victory day.without uncle sam 2 atomic bomb, they may still be flying the rising sun flag now.

Can say the same of Russia, UK, France etc. Basically, US alone probably could have beat the Axis without any allies. Their relative strength was just that staggering (even without nukes).

But to be fair, the Chinese bore the brunt of the ground fighting against Japan. The bulk of the IJA was in China slogging away for most of the war (and even before Pearl Harbour). The IJN did most of the fighting against the US.

They didn't win the war by themselves, but they definitely helped the US by absorbing their share of the attrition.

Without fierce resistance from china that deplete japanese resources and strength, usa would have more trouble in dealing with japs

Reducing troop numbers does not mean cut down on military spending. You may not pay so many soldiers but you may be spending big time on technology and hardware.

yes, after iwo jima and Okinawa, the US were afraid of too much US troop losses. Victory in Europe was pressuring them to end the Pacific war soon with no more losses.

most of the IJA was still stuck in China and rest of Asia. the pacific war was mostly navy and a full on assault on the Japanese mainland was on the cards up until the way the Japanese civilians were killing themselves rather than being overrun by US troops.

it would be a very difficult invasion if even Japanese civilians were picking up any weapon to fight and you have to gun them down. But we don't know if that would really happen.

How a country budget their defence spending is not influence by just short term events like stock market movement or economy fluctuations.

More likely, it is the on going modernsation programs that has allowed the PLA to substantially reduce the manpower need while still multiplying its defence requirements.

In any case, the announcment didn't include the timeline to reduce 300,000 men from China's over 2,000,000 standing army.

If China's wartime effort against the Japanese before and during WW2 aren't internationally recongnised, then how did PRC became 1 of 5 permenant members of today's UN Security Council ?

you can refer to post no 7 by ake109,

my stance is,what's so proud in showcasing a 'victory' parade when the war is actually 'won' by someone else dropping 2 atomic bomb in japan.
