US found out VW had been cheating in their EPA pollution test using a special ECU s/w setting in their diesel TDI engines.

During test, TDI will auto set to "test mode" and run in low emission alogothim.

Once out of the test setting (on dynamo) and on the road, the engine will revert to normal operating mode with over 40x the emission legal limit in US.

Singapore may wanna review some of its TSI diesel models, though majority are petrol based.

Accordingt o US's Consumer report, many VW models, including few from Audi, will be affected and a recall to re-tune (or "de-tune") the ECU engine may be mandatory in N America.
