Police nab Singaporean housewife involved in luxury vehicles smuggling

JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean housewife allegedly involved in a smuggling case of 26 used luxury vehicles cars from the republic was arrested by the State Customs Department.Johor Customs Department director Datuk Ramli Johari said the 26 vehicles, categorised as de-registered have Singaporean number plates. Altogether the vehicles are worth a total of RM2.9 million including tax.

The Singaporean housewife who is in her late 20s was found in possession of three of the used cars at a house in Taman Laguna, here at about 3pm on Jan 20.

"Her arrest led to the discovery of the 23 other vehicles which were parked around same housing estate.

"Among the seized vehicles were Toyata Alphard, Mercedez Benz Brabus, Toyota Lexus, Honda Integra, Mazda 5, Toyota Estima and Nissan Silvia.

"Initial investigation showed the vehicles have been de-registered in a neighbouring country. It is believed the vehicles were kept at specific locations to be sold in the local market at prices that are far cheaper from valid imported cars," said Ramli in a press conference at Menara Kastam Johor today.

He said the housewife was believed to be part of a syndicate involved in the case. The department was now looking for others in the syndicate, as well as her Malaysian husband who works in Singapore.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967. It carries a fine of no less than 10 times or no more than 20 times the value of seized item or up to three years jail or both, if convicted.

No way such cloning can be done without the greased participation of people in the relevant govt departments.

So probably she offended them? Or asked for a bigger cut?

Why do I have this notion that most SG-JB cross straits businesses are shady in nature?? And what is Singapore ICA doing letting deregistered car smuggled across the causeway without proper paperwork? All they know is remind you to insert cash card and check your 3/4 tank. Knn.
