Hey all,

Asking if anyone have gotten a summon from TP for a right turn just outside the Whampoa Market carpark exit? $70 to compound zero demerit. I have no problem compounding it. Just want to learn why a right turn can become an unauthorised u-turn offence.

Ok, just saw the streetview on google map, there is indeed a sign saying no u-turn. My bad.

but that spot is not conventional road layout, especially if you rarely or never been there previously.

Just raise it for everyone else awareness.

You cant u turn there bcos cars travelling in the parallel road at the main road will turn left to enter the market carpark.

now I understand, first time in long long while since I was there.

I thought the slip road to the left will be the entrance to both the carpark entrances.

If u turn at the van direction back to the other side will be a u-turn already.

If you don't see a U-turn sign you can't U-turn, straight forward and it's dangerous to do it here as there's another parallel lane coming alongside you.

No vehicle to make U-turn at road intersection or junction
13.
—(1)  No driver or rider of any vehicle shall make a U-turn at any road intersection, road junction or opening in a road divider unless he is permitted to do so by a road sign.

If you turn at the white van position, you are consider illegal turning. Unless you turn right at the carpark exit, then not illegal.

yups. my bad.

But that time weird thing is absolutely clear in all directions, just an old uncle  on motorcycle doing the same turn in front of me....I guess subconsciously I followed suite.... I even moved to the left more (to give more space for the uncle and made a bigger circle so that my angle of entering the Whampoa Road is almost similar to those vehicle exiting the carpark exit. oh well. $70 lesson learnt. lucky no demerit.
