About the new Hyundai Accent 1.4 litre

I can only answer point 4.

Cos my accent is manual and did not come with a reverse camera and I changed it to the big screen one.

It cost me $680 cos I had to have a reverse camera installed and changed the entire DVD player. I did it at tong Lee wee

http://tongleewee.com.sg

System wise OK but two things

Apparently it is default Chinese language so if you are not good in Chinese, get the installers to change it to English for you. It's just pressing a few buttons but if you cannot read Chinese well......

Secondly, it seems there is more static in the radio after the change. Dunno if it's installation issue, DVD issue or its just reception cos sometimes the static will go away on its own.. it could be psychological also cos I just came back from a two month holiday so it's not like I have been listening to the stereo daily before changing so my before and after comparison of amount of static and reception might not be so accurate.

And yes I still use the wide angle rear view.mirror.

But note. Mine is the old model accent so it does not have any radio buttons on my steering wheel so changing of vcd player is a.bit more straightforward.

Hi Philip,

thank you for your sharing.  very helpful.

Did you replace the audio panel as well?  I see most of the aftermarket head units have rectangular front panel, so the default audio panel in the Accent may not be suitable?

I one of these in Marketplace going for $150.00  http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?app=sgcarstore&req=showprod&product=132448&si=accent%20audio%20panel

Those on ebay are cheaper, going for SGD30++ inclusive of shipment.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Hyundai-i-25-Accent-Solaris-Verna-Car-Stereo-Fascia-Dash-Panel-Radio-Frame/223066245716?hash=item33efc8ca54:g:yRcAAOSw2VJbTzSC

@Philipkee

Price difference between Accent and Elantra GLS is only $5K.

Elantra OMV is also higher, so the actual price difference is only $3K.

For an extra $3K, you get a more superior powerful and spacious car which you don;t need to change midway to upgrade and can use till scrap

I say got for Elantra if your budget permits.

Thats a good point.   [thumbsup]   No wonder I see so many Elantras on the road.

Elantra GLS

Price: $76999

ARF: $12255 (scrap $6127)

no leather seats, not sure what other goodies are included

- Prob need to fork out ~$1k to install leather seats outside

Accent

Price: $71999

ARF: 8329 (scrap $4164)

comes with all the goodies (leather, solar film, etc) except alloy rims

So on paper, it makes sense to go for Elantra.

I have other considerations apart from $$ angle.  My kid is a fairly new driver and her parking skills need some improvement.  So Elantra is a bit too big for her.  We were considering Jazz initially but the price is still steep compared considering that the COE price dropped so much in recent months.  At least Hyundai and Kia are more willing to adjust their prices downwards in tandem with COE prices.

Anyway, still doing all the rational thinking before hitting the showroom.  Once we are there, it's very hard..... [laugh]

btw, I read the FC for Elantra is similar to Accent?  hmm, is this possible?  Elantra is 200kg heavier and with 6AT.  Accent with the supposedly more efficient CVT.

Get the accent only if u like

Manual or

5 door hatch design

Which both are not selling . Lol.

I love to drive manual but not in SG's traffic....LOL

My kid only has class 3 auto licence so cannot  [laugh]

@BOnestock

If your daughter just got her license, and is still anew driver, you can consider getting a used car and let her drive for a year before getting a new car.

This is a good buy at $5K+ annual depreciation -   http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=751416&DL=2792

Let her build up all the dents and scratches, no heart ache!  [laugh]

COE prices are headed south next year due to many cars that renewed COE at $3,000 in April 2009, due to be scrapped.

Actually she's been driving my laopokar COE car for 2 years.  I renewed the COE partly because I wanted to let her drive and build up confidence.  So far, normal driving on the road quite steady already, but somehow parking skills not much improvement

I wasnt aware of that Apr 2009 COE thingy.  Thanks for telling me.  So it makes sense to wait...hopefully govt don't choot new rules by then  [lipsrsealed]

COE crashed to $2 in Dec 2008, so many renewed in the subsequent months. COE renewal is based on 3 mths average and it was at an all time low in April 2009 at $3,000 for 10 yrs renewal.

I see, the picture is clearer now.  Thanks for the great info.   [thumbsup]

My laopokar has over 2 yrs of COE to go so I can wait a little longer.  But need to do some repairs now as I was initially planning to hold it out since changing car soon.

Seems like many people can drive steady on the road but not so steady when comes to parking. Lol.

Hi folks,

I am seriously considering Accent 1.4A.  I have not bought a new car since a long time ago, so will like to seek some advice from the bros and sis here.

1) does anyone have a good SE to recommend?  Prefer to deal with a good SE directly than to try my luck walking in.  When I last bought a new car, I was locked to the SE who served me...this lock-in lasted a few months I think.

2) I read a bro managed to get a good discount (~$5k) by opting out some items like free servicing and other stuff.  did other bros managed to do the same?

3) Accent seems to be the first Hyundai with CVT?  anyone has prob with their CVTs?

4) Anyone replace the stock radio to aftermarket 2-din car stereo?  I notice the rear view camera has reverse video built in, but I prefer the reverse video on a bigger screen.  Also I am used to the wide angle rear view mirror that I have been using since my 1st car, so I will like to continue using it in the Accent.

5) If you changed to aftermarket stereo, is it able to connect to the buttons on the steering wheel?  e.g. volume, phone calls, etc.

Thank you for your advice in advance!

can recommend you a SE. have PMed you

For closed door sale last friend, elantra basic was selling for $67,999.

What's over is over already. Cuz the current Elantra is an outgoing model. Probably after they finish clearing this coming shipment, it will be out of stock until 2019 model which probably will be more expensive. So it will probably be a while stocks last thingy.
