I think ATE already ceased production of the Super Blue because it's been banned by the US DOT.  Apparently for being blue in colour, brake fluid have to be clear or amber.  The kosher replacement for Super Blue is the Type 200 which is exactly the same just without the blue dye.  Having said that, I am also trying to track down the Super Blue, have already checked with Tye Soon and they are also not bringing in fresh stock.  [shakehead]

Why do you want the fluid to be blue?

Why do you want the fluid to be blue?

ATE has both the yellow and blue, basically they used in alternating sequence so that the person who is changing the brake fluid know that the previous brake fluid is completely drained based on the color.

I'm still deciding whether to use Motul RBF600.... but the recommended replacement interval is 6 months to a year, versus the 3 years of the ATE Super Blue..... kinda hard to justify the extra cost considering I hardly every track the car nowadays

How about Pentosin ?

High quality product made in Germany

http://www.amazon.com/Pentosin-1204116-Super-Brake-Fluid/dp/B007PCQCIU/

I always compare the wet boiling points of the brake fluid

Pentosin Super Dot 4 wet boiling point only 170ºC while the wet boiling point of Super Blue is 198ºC, the wet boiling of Motul RBF600 is 204ºC.  Of course none of that matters on street driving, we'll never reach those temperatures  [laugh]

Wet boiling point is one thing. How much it absorb water is another.

I heard some people prefer Dot 3 instead, bcuz it does not absorb water as fast as Dot 4.

So they can use it longer, which is the claim of ATE and also Pentosin.

Unless you're tracking or something, normal driving on flat terrain with normal brake fluid when change often is good enough.

yeah, I flush my brake fluid every year.

While you can say any other dot 4 or dot 3 brake fluid will do, the main reason why I find it so hard to let go of my beloved Super Blue is

nothing comes close to Super Blue for the cost/benefit ratio.  All those brake fluid that are as cheap as Super Blue their wet and dry boiling points do not even come close to that of the Super Blue.  While there are others with similar boiling points as Super Blue, will often cost way more.

I still have Super Blue in my reservoir, due to change at the end of the year. I also have 1 unopened bottle left in my stash, but after it is gone, I don't know.... toying with the idea of Motul RBF600 or Ferodo Formula
