markw12 3rd Gear April 30, 2016 Share April 30, 2016 Hi, I'm currently driving an Toyota Axio, I'm the co-owner. The car had 2 bald Falken tyres (at the front) and two different brand of tyres in the rear. (nexen/firestone) Recently one of the tyre's rubber got struck by a nail in its sidewall and required a new replacement. Owner doesn't want to replace all of the tyres as the car has a year left and instructed me to install the new tyres in the rear and shift one of the rear tyres to the front. I've got a new bridgestone ep200 but now the front has one firestone tyre and a baId tyre. I test drove the car with new tyres and realized the car isn't so sluggish and am having side thoughts of changing the tyre config. in my case, is it recommended to install new tyres to the rear? and should i just grab a new tyre (and use it with the firestone tyre)? ↡ Advertisement
Ken138 4th Gear April 30, 2016 Share April 30, 2016 Bro, am sure yr life is worth more to yr family than bald tyre. Axionis front wheel drive so suggest install new tyres in front. Also different brand of tyres install on different wheel is not recommended as u can imagine different force pulling due varying frictional force. Please value yr life .. :)

Kangadrool Supersonic May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 KNN, change forklift tyres. Puncture-proof. After car COE expire, transfer to forklift.
Jamesc Hypersonic May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 Change 4 $90 tyres only $360. I think your life is worth more than $360 right? There again maybe not as you had to post here to ask this simple question. Btw you din say who the other co owner is, If its your wife or MIL and you are trying to get rid or her and claim insurance then don't bother changing any of the tyres.
Macrosszero Turbocharged May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 If you're nickle-and-diming everything to do with this co-owned car, how do you and your co-owner split the petrol bills? Fill in log-book is it? What's your number plate - so I can stay far away from you on the road. No telling when you might skid into me from one of your four tires giving way because you two were too tight to swap out for a proper roadworthy tire.
Jamesc Hypersonic May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 If you decide not to change all your tyres then if you see a car with MCF sticker in front please don't come so close. If you need to jam brake we all don't want you up our backside. Especially me I lesbian not gay.
Jamesc Hypersonic May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 Lets put it another way. $360 a year is just $1 a day. Is your life not worth $1 a day. If its not please post your car number. We look forwards to avoiding you when we see you, see your car crash picture in the papers and going to buy 4D when you crash.
Steptronic Supercharged May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 Scrap the car now, stay safe and make roads safe for us instead of playing around with bald tyres! Haha, how can TS ask such questions here? Flame him, Flame him

Jjlimjohn Clutched May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 i know the seriousness of bald tyres, i'm proceeding to buy new tyres chill all.. Usually types are changed in pairs whereby the front tyres will be will be moved to the back and the front uses the new ones. This is because the front tyres wear out faster due to the front wheel drive as well as the weight of the engine. Having different friction for tyres will cause your car to drift or skid out of control, especially if the axio doesn't have traction control to manage the difference in friction. Hope this provides a good understanding of why u will need to change tyres in pairs.

If your car is near the end of 10 years, why not consider scrapping it? That will free you from worrying about changing tyres, servicing, changing batteries, repairing gear box etc which can be costly and a hassle.
Sabretan 4th Gear May 1, 2016 Share May 1, 2016 If u think going scrap in a yr or so, go for 2nd hand tyres w abt 60 to 80 percent left. The price will usually b much cheaper than brand new ones.
