Well, accdient aside the cabbie did the right thing and came out to help, I don't see anything wrong here, except for some misjudgment resulting in the accident.

Sliproads are nasty, drivers do take caution, after checking that the coast is clear, look to the front before moving off to avoid hitting cars in front or pedestrians dashing across last min.

Should ensure that no car in front at dotted line before check your right side.. If you do otherwise, such thing will happen..

Cyclist was clearly in sight, hope he is okay.

Probably focused on looking right over his shoulder, thinking he's clear ahead since he was not following any vehicle.

Taxi driver didn't look at his 1 o'clock.

Probably fatigue set in, last passenger of night shift before handing to morning shift.

Look like those FW. Many of these FW don't have front and rear lights. Would have been more noticeable and have a higher chance of the taxi driver noticing him if he had a front light blinking.

I bought alot of those cheap front and rear lights at those value shops and just give to these FW whenever I see them riding without lights. Cuz for some reason, they just don't have the lights on their bicycle. Never managed to get the reason from them. Might be because of the cost or they just don't know how dangerous it is without the lights.

Ya, it is difficult to see cyclists in the dark. You only see them once the headlights shone on them.

Here is the case probably the taxi driver did not see him approaching, but was only visible in front of the headlights.

Are they allowed on the roads at night?

Allowed. But need to have front and rear lights. White in front and red at the back. Have seen TP stopping a group of FW riding on the road with no lights at night.

They probably don't want to keep buying batteries for the lights.

OMG!  You captured the whole incident!

Hope the cyclist is alright!  Saw him trying to get up but couldn't.

Actually I don't approve cycling on the road  I find it dangerous.

I think the taxi was at fault?  He should look out before filtering out and also the cyclist was wearing white, don't tell me he can't see him.

I'm sure if taxi uncle see him, would not have hit him Liao... Moreover for them, any accident = downtime = loss of income...

The problem is we sometimes look further and omit the cyclist who is actually nearer to us ... Accidents does happen....

No driver will intentionally hit a cyclist and get into unnecessary trouble. Not to mention, Life at stake Wor...

Hope the cyclist is not too seriously injured...

Cycling on road is still safe.  Cyclist must preamp drivers action & take the necessary precaution.

In this case, the cyclist did not have front & rear light.  With front/rear light, it is easier to capture the action of drivers.

I encountered similar situation daily & nothing happens.  If i sense the drivers going to chiong, i usually back off & switch on my headlight to hi beam.  Mind you, on hi beam, the entire car cabin will be lighted on from 200m away.

Especially during night driving, drivers are used to look for moving lights, if the cyclist was not well lit, it would be easily miss by the taxi driver. Moreover, the cyclist took for granted that the taxi would stop, I am a cyclist and  a diver myself, I would not  make that convenient assumption that a car will definitely give way to me whey I am cycling.

Definitely will be taxi's fault cuz he was coming out from the sliproad and there is a giveway line. Cycling on the road can be safe. Cyclists just have to cycle defensively and have enough lights to be seen easily. Just a small blinking light in front and behind will make them alot more visible already. As a cyclist, I always look at the drivers eyes, if they make eye contact with me, I can be sure they have seen me. If I can't make eye contact with them, I will assume they have not seen me and be prepared to stop or avoid them already.
