Saw this car near Aeon Tebrau with the driver door damaged and parked on the kerb in odd position.

Seen on 13Aug16 morning.

Just trying my luck to see if the owner has lost the car or something else.

Mostly likely car broke down, if stolen, not likely to be in such a complete state.

Also not likely that the driver try to save on parking as PARKING is FREE or RM1 !!!

This car looks odd. The registration indicates that it is a FL Mazda 3 but it is clearly a pre-FL Mazda 3.

LTA indicates that the YOM is 2008, which precludes this car being old stock being registered late.

Seems to me like the identity of the car has been swapped, though I do not know for what reasons.

Could be that owner purchased the car 2nd hand and the first owner kept the original number plate with it resulting in this Mazda 3 being allocated a new number plate from the series of that period..

Same goes to seeing 2006 altis with SLD plate.

Not accurate to go by licence plate lettering...

Based on LTA record, looks correct to me. Still registered so not sure what happened to this car.

Yes , looks like a cloned car. Like what you said, one should got to sgcarmart and take a look at what a 2008 registered Mazda 3 looks like and then compare. This pic shows a year of manufacture 2004 one instead. Which does not tally with lta records. Edited by Mkl22

Not surprised that it is a clone, as this trade has been booming in our neighbouring country as of recent years. Even with the crackdown I guess ppl are still finding ways around it

Some articles on cloned vehicles, quite an interesting read

Sold my old Atis in Apr 2015 to a scrapyard and the LTA dereg documents showed that the chassis and engine were 'exported' to Malaysia... and here I am wondering about what the odds are that my ex car was cloned (though its damn illegal, it would be really interesting to see the old girl up and running again, kinda miss her hahaha)

If you're a Singaporean, owning a cloned SG car with an SG carplate makes sense. The car never leaves malaysia anyway. If you do get stopped, just show them your log card (which can be forged since it's an online print out) or insurance cert which is altered to the correct year and month to match your car. Also act like you're a tourist visiting and are unsure of the road. They can't check.

I've gotten stopped in KL because I was the only SG car there in rush hour traffic and they thought i was driving a clone car. They asked for documents and I showed them my insurance cert, the told me to go. You see how easy it is to get away with such things? Besides, if you are really caught with a clone car, just toss them a bit of money and they will let you go. It's probably more than what they will earn in a day anyway.

The problem is if said cloned car isn't owned by you - whoever is driving the clone could then be clocking up driving offences in Malaysia, or worse, crime, which you then become held liable for.

That's scary.

What is stop JB criminals from just replicating a SGP licence plate and fix it on one of their own locally stolen car?

Swapping out the plates are 1minute level kind of job....

They can use it to commit crimes, speeding all without being held accountable.

Your only immediate recourse on hand would be your passport then (for a not-in-country alibi.

if 2008 based on lta record, this means the original car with this plate is most likely still alive.  that's a scary thought for singapore car owners that drives into jb.  it means they could be stopped for traffic offences commited by the cloned car.
