Thai-made Hondas nowadays are quite well-built also. The quality is definitely much better than Malaysian made CR-V if you join their FB group (yes, I joined since sg doesn't have one).

Being an owner of a few Honda cars previously (except before changing to CR-V, I was driving a Mazda 5), I came to love their drive and reliability. Other 7-seater equivalent SUV is really of no interest to me, like Mitsubishi Outlander (dated looks and poor built-quality) and Nissan X-Trail (drove it as a rental car in 2015 in Melbourne and disliked the super light steering. Super underpowered also and 3rd row seats basically put there for fun only). Korean makes still a no-go for me (and yes, I'm still biased). European makes also no-go for me as I'm not an ang moh fanboy.

I'm used to having window visors for all my previous cars and asked for it just to enhance the look of the vehicle. They are of not much practical use so if you're fine without them, just go without.

The boot tray is useful as you can put stuffs there without worrying the stuffs falling off the boot when you open the hatch-door. I was only trying my luck to ask for it just before collecting car and my SE surprised me with it as she didn't promise anything. Haha...

Taobao got lots of accessories. Spend some time to look through and you'll find them. There's a small part of the handle protectors that cannot be used as the key hole is on the other side of the door since they are mainly for LHD models.

My car's pics are attached for reference.

Thanks! The pictures are really useful.

I'll go without the window visors as I also prefer the looks without as well.

Maybe I'll ask my SE the same about the cargo tray ;).  I was just thinking it'll be nice to have the tray to put a wet umbrella for example.  But to be fair on the SE, it is kind of useless because it's so small.

One question - do you know of a boot cover (tourneau cover) that would work?  We're planning trips into Malaysia (we have family there) and I want something to hide anything in the boot.  The best I can find is a black pet mat for an SUV that can be used to cover everything.  The SE recommended using a bedsheet to cover.  It could work, but it's a bit of a in-elegant solution ;).

Sad to say, the 7-seater doesn't come with tonneau cover brackets. So the 5-seater cover won't work on the 7-seater.

I was driving into work today and we saw a 5-seater CR-V.  I've only seen four on the road in the past two months (2x 5-seater, 1x 7-seater and 1x Unknown).  It was very exciting to see one today.

I agree the selling price isn't attractive considering the feature set.  The 5-seater especially is a no-go, really poorly featured and priced too high.  Then if you want a 7-seater SUV, there is the Kia Sorento, which is a proper 7-seaters and really good value for the feature set.  It's also only $5k-$6k more than the CR-V based on list price.  Then you hear the CR-V is made in Thailand, and a lot of cultures (including Singaporeans) have a view that quality is going to be worse than made in Japan.

Why buy then? For me, mainly intangible things.  I didn't want a mid-sized SUV.  I wanted a compact-crossover.  It's going to be hard for my wife to drive a huge car.  I liked the combination of driving experience, comfort, space for it's size, versatility, warranty, servicing, freebies, flexibility in insurance etc.  I also prefer it's looks over the Sorento, which is a bit bland IMO. Ultimately, buying a car is a intensely personal choice.

On top of that, one thing I've learned through this experience is that the mainstream Singaporean car-buyer prefer buying on features, price and badge.  The most attractive car for a mainstream car-buyer is the one with most features and lowest cost.  The only thing that overrules that is if you get a fancy badge, like a BMW, Mercedes or Audi.  A good number of Singaporeans would buy a lesser car if it's got a higher-end badge.

Crv is very roomy for a compact crossover. Just more body lean compared to mazda or the european equivalents.

It's just not popular in SG due to the price tag.

370+k sales figures, probably the 2nd best selling car in the USA behind Rav4. Won't go wrong.

It's ok. i drive a honda that but doesn't sell in SG as well.

Enjoy your ride.

Figured that's the case.  I suppose it would be irritating as the 3rd row takes up so much space in the boot, that if you have a Tourneau cover, it's just going to get in the way when you actually want to put things in.  Looks like I'll be sticking with the "bed-sheet" option when we head into Malaysia.

Thanks - really excited - but have to wait until after CNY to collect.  We've secured a CoE (they had existing CAT E's) and they have onshore stock.  But the SE couldn't budge on delivery before CNY as loan applications etc have to go though.

depends on what items u have in your car.

If the items are not large. something like this is better. just seems like u have a box in your trunk area.

https://www.lazada.sg/products/collapsible-storage-box-foldable-plastics-crate-car-trunk-organizer-with-lid-i280439185-s439510052.html?spm=a2o42.searchlist.list.71.730f2025i1lAHO&search=1

But this one is quite expensive. I got 2 of these for my own sedan boot to prevent groceries from rolling around. And i remember it cost 20+.

That could work, but I suppose the main thing is hiding everything so a thief doesn't even know there is something to steal if they look into the car.

I'm not so worried about it in SG. It's mainly if in MY and in that case we will have suitcases. I probably can just make my own, as we would really only use it when we drive over the border. 98% of the time in SG we will be fine without.

Base trim 1.5T 5 seater Honda CRV costs SGD129,999, MIT

Base trim 2.0NA 7 seater Mitsubishi Outlander costs SGD101,999, MIJ

2.0NA 5 seater Mitsubishi ASX costs SGD91,999, MIJ

Base trim 1.5T 5 seater Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross costs SGD103,999, MIJ

Base trim 2.0NA 5 seater Subaru Forester costs SGD107,800, MIJ (Even the older version was selling at SGD95k.)

Base trim 2.0NA 5 seater Subaru XV costs SGD91,800, MIJ

Base trim 1.6NA 5 seater Suzuki Vitara costs SGD83,900, MIH

2.0NA 7 seater Nissan X-Trail costs SGD127,300, MIJ

Even the new Toyota RAV4 2.0NA 5 seater is priced around SG120k.

So you guys should understand why the CRV can't sell well.

It's not priced competitively. Not really VFM compared to so many Japanese branded models of the same class.

KM is really screwing people on the 5-seater CR-V.  Outside of SG, the 5-seater actually is a pretty good car, but KM has nerfed it and priced it such that an informed buyer should be shocked.  Even if you look at the latest promotion, they actively point out the the 5-seater CR-V isn't eligible for promotion.  It's almost like they don't want people to buy it.

May be that's their strategy - make the 5-seater look like a really bad deal - so it makes the 7-seater look like a good deal, e.g. For $10k more you get ALL this extra.  Still - I've seen more 5-seaters on the road than 7-seaters (of the four I've seen).

When I went lasy year to view the CR-V with my friend, the 5 seater was still using key to start the engine. Come on!

Did they spec it better now?

Still the same key start. Also 2 airbags. No auto-lights or auto-wipers. It's pretty bad.

At the very least it's got an LCD headunit, unlike the new Rav4!
