actually if increase rebate for OPC not bad leh, can genuinely reduce traffic during peak periods and more people can own a car.

 

Win win imo.

 

Off peak becomes peak since more cars will be plying the road. This will give the justification to extend the ERP to 24/7.

Think even quota reduce for growth, dont think they need to delay the coe bidding. Should be something quite drastic change, thats why need to delay coe bidding. Wonder if this change will affect the new buyers or existing car owners or both?

Biggest impact to COE bidding will be CEVs. Petrol/Diesel tax changes will not require the delay. Last petrol tax increase announced in Budget 2015 did not require the delay of COE bidding. CEVs change will have immediate impact on car prices. Any agreement/contract signed between customers and dealers need to be reviewed before the bidding because dealers will want the customers to top up the $5k, $10k rebates which could be removed after the CEVs tweak.

My guess:

 

1) CEVs changes

2) up petrol/diesel tax

3) up ERP rates

4) ease car loan

5) PARF changes

6) U/G categorized like taxi

7) reduce COE quotas cos (6)

8) ADs/PIs not allowed to bid COEs

9) 5 - 8 to take effect after current quarterly COE quotas

 

SIC/GLC ... Huat Ah!!!

Either they change the CEVs policy or add in some new policy which can affect the car price.

Therefore unlilkely they will change it so abruptly now. too much instability just to implement it a few months earlier

My take -

 

Probable:

Diesel tax, or at least disincentives.

In addition, incentives for hybrids. Maybe an amendment to CEVS to give more advantages to hybrid/electric cars.

 

Maybe:

Drop the 130bhp Cat A COE. Clearly that has been a failure so I don't see any point in continuing this.

Maybe realignment of COE categories, perhaps no more based on engine size. This one not sure but could make sense.

Also maybe restructure of road tax?  Could be a lead on from dropping the road tax disc. Perhaps road tax may be a variable component based on age and fuel type, among other factors.

 

Of course it's all speculation only la. We shall see.

 

 

Agreed on the restructure of this CAT A and CAT B thing.

 

It is so out dated 

 

But last time they restructured, it had 6 months lead time from announcement to implementation

If they want, they can change it anytime they like lo. Not the first time they made abruptly changes related to car policy. Still remember they can just changed the loan period and downpayment suddenly back then?!

yes they can, but CEVS already has a scheduled timeline for update in a few more months

 

why the need to bring the timeline forward, and show they are not committed to their own prescribed timeline? 

 

 

 

the loan period and downpayment had no scheduled timeline, therefore it can be sudden
