Car Servicing advise needed..

Hi all,

Need some advise. I am scheduled for 50K servicing for my BMW 120I cabriolet and I just got it second hand. It is a 2011 model and is 5+ years old.

I am considering going to juzz for cars for servicing. Need some advise if they are good and worth it?

Also, I was told to change the following:

1) Engine Oil
2) Oil Engine Filter
3) Gearbox Fluid
4) Gearbox Oil Filter
5) Rear differential fluid spark plug.

Is the above all necessary to change?

Appreciate your advise.

Thank you in advance.

My advice is:

1.  J4C is good with BMs.

2.  Your (5) "Rear differential fluid spark plug" should be split into 5 and 6.

3.  Should also check the brake pads and as Othello said, brake fluid.  Also check power steering fluid.

4.  Should be "advice" and not "advise".

Which 1 serves you?

Anyway, it is good to get 2nd opinion.  Sometime, it could be true to ensure that you stay away from tow truck.

Last time, T2 told me to change water pump every 50k km.  I did not do so.  Water pump bearing jam and snap belt at 50+k km.  It happens when i was doing parallel parking at 6am.  I have to continue with parallel parking w/o power steering.

TS,

I drive a Beemer too & I've been changing EO every 9-10k km from last servicing. Oil filter & aircon filter too.

At 50K, better have aircon checked for gas.

Since u got it preowned, have the brake pads checked.

Tyres....change it if 3 yrs or more. Tyres needed to be changed every 40K or 3 yrs with normal road usage.

Thanks. I was told by juzz for cars that they can't do rear differential fluid because they do not have drain plug. Is that true and what's a drain plug?

It depends on your car design. Here's a video on changing rear differential fluid.

Sometimes there's a drain plug or fill plug. That's where you tighten/loosen the plug to enable drain or fill through a hole in the differential.

If you watch the video, they just removed the bolts and let it drain out from the cover.

Then clean up, put on a gasket and put back the bolts.

There's a fill hole behind the differential, where they stick a 3/8" or 1/2" extension to remove the fill plug, so that you can push the gear oil into the differential.

Then put back the plug and tightened to prevent any oil from coming out.

Does that mean juzz for cars is lying to me? Cause they told me can't be done due to the fact that there is no drain plug?

Well, I wouldn't know. Maybe they don't do this kind of servicing ?

Anytime you remove the bolts on the cover, the oil would all flow out.

Some cars may have a drain plug to more "elegantly" drain the oil than loosening the cover and all the oil splash out.

Found this video for BMW 1 rear differential.

It has only 1 service hole and use a 14mm allen key.

The author mentioned you can replaced the oil by sucking out from that hole and refilling it through the same hole.

It doesn't look very difficult or need a very special tool.

It's good to change out the oil with the correct spec type.
