Wah this thread is slowing moving to a harrier topic.. hahaha..

harrier is a very good car IF u dont plan to speed fast.

if u plan to drive fast, get a  forester 2.0XT.

Lets talk about the same category cars, comparing a A180 or B-class to a harrier is just not right..

A-class getting 14km/l ? wow.. that's pretty bad FC for that size of car man... considering my harrier can get 13.3km/l easily. hahahahaha

I don't think its about what car you want to talk about, but what car the TS wants to buy..

On the other hand, a real world FC of 14km/l for a a 0-100 of 9.1, with more interior space, more boot space, yes, indeed, not a fair comparison. But yes, they are quite different cars indeed.

are audi's reliable since they come from the same family as the VW.

So have you found your dream ride?

Of the lot you have stated, the Harrier does have solid reliability. A friend just booked one.

So see what are you after.

If you need space, speed and safety, there are other choices too. Cheers

Turbocharged

+1

Firstly, I am not a rep.

So some might ask a Merc? Badge Whore? Perhaps some may buy a Merc for such reasons..

Or buy it for the right reasons.

Why the B180:

- safest car in it's class. Highest NCAP score. 7 airbags, collision warnings etc

- lowest coefficient of drag when it was introduced - lower than a Ferrari

- more rear legroom than an E Class

- standard features are similar to much higher end cars. If you buy a so called bread and butter car, then start adding this and that, eg folding mirrors, LED lights, DRL, etc etc, you void the warranty, and end up spending almost the same

- much more spacious and more features than the A class

- Carplay in the 2017 edition

- FC (stated) 18km/l - about 14km.l in regular SG conditions

- good power compared to the typical 1.6l choices 0-100 in 9.1 sec, very stable at high speeds

- made in Germany

- real net price is not that much more than your average Korean or Jap SUV

- been around for a while, so major issues sorted, and many units sold locally.

- shares parts with all MFA cars, including the A class, CLA and GLA so many places to service

- and it's one of the cars to benefit from the VES scheme - 10k instead of 5k rebate

If you have elderly parents or kids, easy for them to get in and out

And ... it's a Merc, so yes, you can be a badge whore too [laugh]

So safe car .. sounds like a condom.

Well it's no looker perhaps, but it is very safe.

But no matter how many safety features a car, it's only as safe as what the driver does with it.

YMMV.

14kml for B class ok right? a safe car for the family why not? C180 ard 12-13kml!

yep all depends on the driver. if he is careful he can handle any cars....so long he is not reckless and lose his mind on the roads!

Hello everyone, I am currently driving a Kia Forte and am interested in changing up my ride.

Having browse through SG Car Mart, there are plenty of choices...

Narrowed my choices to these cars with the depreciation of $11k - $13k:

  • Merc A-class - A180
  • Toyota Harrier
  • Audi A3
  • Honda Civic Turbo
Any recommendations?
Very clearcut of coz harrier la.

Premium SUV vs entry level conti.

Nowadays ppl know the price of the car, driving a A3 or A180 (not A45) juts telling ppl you are just a badge whore that buy the cheapest merc or audi, buying just for the sake of the brand itself. Go and compare the interior of all the 4 cars you will know what i am talking about.

I think there's an adjacent thread on what SUV to buy..

TS do bear in mind that a PI Harrier has Jap menus. And do read up on the perils of going through a PI. Cheers

Japanese is very hard to learn

Reading their text is impossible

Listening to their songs is not so bad

But watching their movies is a fun and entertaining way to learn

The thing is they don't talk much

Sometimes when I don't understand what they are saying I use this
