Razer has embarked on a restructuring process which could see the end of its phone division.

Droid-Life received an anonymous tip that Razer has laid off a bulk of its mobile device and hardware engineer staff as well as some in marketing. While some staff will remain to work on updates for the Razer Phone 2, its successor has been cancelled.

The publication went to investigate the tip and reportedly found several engineers who left Razer this month. Apparently, many of them worked on the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2. Droid-Life then reached out to Razer for comments and received the following statements:

Razer has made changes to realign our organisation and strengthen our path to growth. We will centralize our resources to focus on key projects and improve our profitability. As part of the realignment, we shut down several projects and unfortunately had to part ways with about 30 employees (about 2 per cent of our total workforce). Other employees of the affected projects will be moved to different parts of Razer to work on other key focus projects and initiatives which will continue to scale and hire.

Razer unveiled the Razer Phone 2 in October last year with mostly specs upgrades such as IP67 water/dust resistance, OIS for the wide-angle lens, a brighter display and wireless charging support.

It could do them long term good...Trim the potential fats to stay healthy. smartphone is a crowded space to begin with.

Donât be another creative...

The smartphone market has reached its peak already.

Even big players like Apple and Samsung are reporting loss in market shares.

So still not too late to exit, unless their phones really have a unique selling point that can sell.

There's a reason why razor went into smartphones.

Cos pc/laptop gaming industry while still niche is slowly shrinking. As our generation age more and more, less and less people are going to own peripheral devices to connect to their laptop/PC.

Billions of people don't even own anything more than a smartphone.
