SINGAPORE: Singtel on Friday (Oct 27) unveiled its price plans for the new Google Pixel 2 XL.

The telco is bringing in the device as the tech giant's exclusive partner in Singapore and the phone will be launched on Nov 15.

For S$27.90 a month on the lowest tier price plan, the 64GB Pixel 2 XL model will cost S$1,098. On the highest tier price plan at S$239 a month, subscribers will not have to pay for the device.

Google launched a slew of hardware devices earlier in the month including the second-generation Pixel smartphone and accessories like its Pixel Buds wireless earphones.

The Pixel 2 and the larger Pixel 2 XL are the first Google-made phones to be released since the company announced the acquisition of segments of Taiwan-based electronics group HTC.

Singtel previously said that the Pixel 2 XL is a Category 11 4G LTE device, which would allow customers to experience data speeds of up to 500Mbps across Singapore.

Pre-registration for the smartphone can be done on Singtel's website.

TS, why no 3rd option in the poll, "can consider subject to ... etc etc"...

then we can discuss on what are the factors that will determine whether someone will buy or not...  [laugh]

I have tried both Google Assistant and Siri.

Siri seems to be the better assistant.

Eg. I would say Hey Siri or OK Google : "Directions to nearby Shell station".

It's good to be specific coz if you say petrol station it includes all other companies.

Siri will give you a list of suggestions and suggest the nearest and ask you whether you would want that station. And all you have to do is say "Yes" or tap on the station you prefer on the list. You can go totally hands free w/o touching your phone.

Ok Google will display and list of locations icons w/o a reply and you would have to tap on the icon and then the "start". Requires you to tap the phone.

Recently I have tried making calls using Siri. Have to turn down the music or when the car is stop whereby the environment is in total silence to activate Siri. Unless you mount your phone really close to your mouth. Good thing is it bypass the security page and go straight to calling the person in your contacts, hands free. But only for calls.

As for directions to your contacts eg. to your wife's office you have to manually key in your wife's office address under her contact. When this is done you can simply say,"hey Siri, directions to wife's office". Or if there's a building name you just say the building's name.

For Google you have to tap on the phone screen to activate the map "start" eg. directions to home. Siri don't have to touch the screen.

Both device you have to get thru the initial security either by thumbprint or pattern stroke. But I notice for Google you have to wake up the phone first while iphone do not need to but must activate "hey siri" in the settings.

A big plus for Siri will be its Location Services. It will only be turn on while using Siri. Google you will have to turn on the GPS and leave it on if you are going to use maps

i was one of those who signed up for the pre-order.. end up i went for the X.

1) SingTel is very very tight-lipped on the price. Even on the pre-order page, i don't know how much the phone is going to cost.

2) After molesting the phone at SingTel Shop, no feel.

and now the price is so high..
