Why incompetent people often think they’re actually the best

"Like Dr Goh (Keng Swee), I don’t believe people can change. So the best way to change an organisation is to burn it down and start afresh. That means I sack the whole lot of managers. In every organisation, there are three types of people: the emperors at the top, the workers at the bottom, and the eunuchs in the middle."

"When there were issues with CPF, the minister answered. Where was the CPF chairman? When the trains broke down, the minister answered. Where was the SMRT chairman? In the past, the civil servants would take charge."

"In my time, permanent secretaries were permanent in their postings. Today, we should call them “temporary secretaries” because they get rotated every few years. There’s no reservoir of experience… they are constantly rotated and they have no depth."

Why you so harsh to Kusje? ð

Today I learn an important lesson.

The person who you talked to in this forum may not be the person who really is in reality.

ð¾

He's jealous of me la.

the best way to know whether you are good or not in your field is to broaden your horizon and worldview, and remain humble. once you have seen the best of the best, you will know where you stand. that will give us the right perspective.

Actually I disagree. There is no way to know how good you really are. You can only make a wild guess at most.

Even if you have seen the best of the best and realise you are better, you never know if there is someone better, just not known to you despite your best efforts.

That is why I believe people who are already at the top are people who keep trying to improve, because they never know if there is someone better.

your view does not contradict with mine. actually the motivation for people at the top of their field is to try to remain at the top, which is why they have to constantly improve and get better.

as you said, these people will do well to remain humble.

.

Let me offer you my life perspective on this matter

What defines best? Rank? Accolades? Certification? Dedication?

Very difficult becos it’s different for everyone.

Therefore i always say, the race is never with others

Becos someone will be better and someone will be worse.

If you always compare to the better you will be inadequate

If you alway compare withh ge worse you will be too contented

The gauge, benchmark is your ownself

As long as you better yourself as time passes , Thats good enough.

Some people cannot understand that and eventually they kill themselves in the process of trying to beat others. Or becoming 1. Even if you become No.1, there will be another in time to come.

In rhe end it will always only be yourself to beat

Good weekend folks

It is human nature to compare and feel good about being one up.

Truth hurts.

True, it hurts.

It takes a lot of humility to concede that you are not as good as some others.

But that is the start to success.

Only when you are humble, will you truly learn.

Only when you truly learn, will you improve, by learning from people better than you.

stupid everyone is like CCB?

Its very easy lah

I am not as good as everyone else.

See so easy peasy.  [thumbsup]

You don't know what you don't know.

Always assume that someone else is better till proven otherwise.

Can't agree with that.

But don't assume you know more than someone else.

Philipkee is right!

This man is not the fastest driver in the world.

Lewis-Hamilton-Crop-725x500.jpg

The third bus no 64 driver is faster.

First no 64 driver leaves the depot at 5.52 am,

8 minutes later the second no 64 leaves.

Another 8 minutes later the third no 64 leaves

but is the first to reach the terminal.

He had a 16 minute deficit and still caught up with the first two

its just that he is too busy working here to go and compete with

those sissy track drivers. If he drove the same car as Lewis he will

be 5 car lengths in front of Lewis at the end of the race.

So Lewis thinks he is the best of the best but he doesn't know

if third driver no 64 wasn't so busy driving here Lewis would only

be only no 2.

:D

Or even only 3 cos second no 64 bus driver made up the 8 minute deficit.

If you ever wanted to know why 3 buses with same no come at the same

time its simply because no 2 and 3 bus drivers are really F1 drivers.
