Turbocharged

i have no issues with China making their own movies

but i hope they will stop the remaking of HK classics

same goes for the classic HK dramas

they only will destroy the legacies of those movies and dramas

9a504fc2d562853521d45fc19bef76c6a7ef631e

The movie was rated 5.1 by China's viewers, in spite of thousands of paid ratings. Some honest reviews from the viewers:

"此英雄非彼英雄 不是取个英雄的名字就是英雄了gay里gay气的 一点都不带感"

"众主创们真是用心地拍出了一部烂片,满满的基情,毁了经典。最出戏的是马天宇,不明白他怎么会有勇气挑战张国荣;王凯也太缺乏英雄气。"

"a worse tomorrow!a dead tomorrow!"

"时代变了江湖已经不是那个江湖了这片怎么看还有点基情的味道,也许翻拍其实是在提醒我们永远要记住经典的周润发和张国荣,无法磨灭和赶超的时代记忆"

Short of calling it acting yet, the entire image already lau kui. Totally boh seh at all, totally su seh. The opponent see also laugh, how to be hero ? Even China viewers call it a gay bromance movie, not brotherhood movie. Something is very wrong in the casting, most probably they were chosen for the investors, or managers with strong $$ backing.

鬼打鬼 is one movie that scarred me for life. till now I'm scared shit of mirrors...

The first Project A and Police Story with Maggie Cheung were quite entertaining and novel at the time of release. Can still see the passion in doing own stunts and carefully choreographed action scenes.

倩女幽魂 is a classic hard to surpass even by the director and producer. Again, the same pair created ‎笑傲江湖 which set new standards for Wuxia choreography that became Ching SIu-Tung's signature that would later become too much.

For mainstream HK movies, I would categorise them into the 粵語片-era up till mid 60's, the Shaw and Cathay-era, the post 80's (Golden Harvest,  Cinema City and D&B peak era) and then the post-1997.

Much of the discussion seems to be from the 1980s. Post 80's new wave directors - Tsui Hark, Ann Hui, Patrick Tam, Mabel Cheung etc. started the  modern style.

My own most impressionable HK movies from the 80's:

鬼打鬼 - Dir: Sammo Hung, sets precedence for HK vampire movies (GH)

Dir: Tsui Hark (CC)

Dir: Ann Hui, very Ann-style realism and no happy ending

烈火青春 - Dir: Patrick Tam, mentor of Wong Kar Wai - starring 夏文夕  )

A計畫 - DIr: Jackie Chan (GH)

Dir: Eric Tsang (CC)

Dir: John Woo (CC)

Dir: Mabel Cheung (D&B)

Dir: Ching Siu-Tung (CC)

Next time then talk about 90's.

Tiong 仔笨色。Nuff said.

Edison Chen should be in the remake of a better tomorrow. Really good bullet magnet.

I think different flavours of Mark can be found in several Vets such as Anthony Wong or 吴镇宇。

The 大哥 can be someone gone from public view maybe 万子 or 刘家梁。

If can cajole the 小倩 out of retirement...

Then remakes are boring in of itself.  New stories with historical backgrounds are delicious maciam 蛋家人 by Aaron Kwok.

Ranking every Hong Kong film released in 2017, from worst to best
Hong Kong cinema didn’t have its greatest year, with very few noteworthy releases. However, there are some pearls, most of which come from upcoming talent. Here are 45 of this year’s films in reverse order

Typically slow and no fanfare but places the viewer into the world of the characters through their interaction. My favorite is 阿飛正傳.

Another director also typically slow and no fanfarew is Tsi Ming-liang and I cannot understand any of his movies. In Vive L'amor there's a 20 minute scene just walking and no dialogue no interaction.

Those who like Wong Kar Wai.. I recommend Patrick Tam the guy who taught and edited Wong's movies.

Totally cannot understand and the movie is super boring.

For all i know, Wong Kar Wai loves to ask the casts to walk here walk there.

come back and go back there again.

That time they say it's artistic.
