Demand is still there due to VES in July. However, I don't expect it to go up too much. Might even drop slightly.

How long do you guys think the trend of Cat B lagging behind cat A will continue.

is the sale of luxury cars drying up and more people going economy mode.

is it harbinger of serious economic downturn?

Actually our economy has been pretty stagnant since late 2016.

It’s a distortion created by the nonsense of VES.

A lot of Cat B cars attract a penalty of at least $10K and some of them $20K.

So when you see a parity of Cat A and B COE, don’t be fooled, because of the VES, you’re paying $10K to $20K hidden.

And this is the best part:

When you sell or scrap your car, VES is gone, forever in the pockets of LTA, unlike COE which is returned pro-rata.

You must give it to these scholars, instead of making Singapore a better place, they think of all ways to take money from the citizens.

If you’re so good, go and find money from the world, don’t take so much from us.

Once the dust has settled for VES, would probably see more stabilising of CAT A and B prices.

@Dach What a pun of words of dust for VES!  [thumbsup]  Dust therotically will settle.

With more taxi coming on board and as @Doppel more people understanding the actual depreciation affected by VES rebates/charges, the COE could take a bit longer to stabilise.

It's good to control PM dust but seriously - the construction industry with poor dust control measures, the people burning towers of incense, the Malaysia heavy trucks with black soot from exhaust, the crazy aircon coldness in many buildings (some countries mandated at lowest 25 deg cel), etc. makes a mockery of what this VES exercise is.  [furious]

Car owners are the easiest to target and LTA can claim this is in line with car lite.

It's like a sin tax.

Singapore should go PAP lite too.

Biggest irony is that green cars are also subject to this VES nonsense.

Fully agree. This VES thingy is rubbish. Our scholars are high paid but not good, that's why they can only think of such lame methods to take money from us to make up for the money they loose to the world.

Not good is an understatement.  In case some have forgotten, the Euro scheme which force many importers to switch to Euro 5 for commercial vehicles caused a huge mess in the market when supply was not even ready to meet regulations.  The end result?  Commercial COE plunged and many old vans and pick-ups went ahead to renew their old sputtering and filthy engines for 10 more years.  Just ask the in house euro van drivers.

The sustained B<A is the successful implementation of LTA policy to reduce the Gini coefficient, closing the income gap. The cheaper B has humbled many luxury car owner. Another feather in the cap to our scholars.

A & B down. Trump-Kim @ Sentosa + school holiday + Ves 2.0

or we can say garment has settled the dust for themselves and fixed their income COE+VES=~40 - 50K, regardless of the economy and demand. You buy you pay $$, economy bad or good doesn't matter haha
