Penang Hill - have you been there ?

Not all the way from SG. Driving anything beyond 5 hrs is quite torturous and not forgetting the jams you may get during peak hours. Always like to break up. Normally stopover at KL or Ipoh

You mean stopover at KL or Ipoh is overnight at least 1 day and then continue the journey?

Normally I plan this way:

SG- MLK - Ipoh - Penang - KL - SG

Or

SG - KL - Penang - Ipoh - MLK - SG

Normally at least 2 nights per location. Penang, normally at least 3 nights.

Knowing your limits is good. When Singaporeans don't know their limits, accidents happen like many recently in Aussie, US and NZ. Driving 700-800km in a day is normal there, but stopping every two hour is recommended.

When I was a student in Aust, we rotate driver every 2 hours for 1k km drive.

I always think if drive so far from sg to penang but only stay 2-3 nights like very wasted. Lol.

Thought I am one of few crazy fellas who drove to Penang. I also do that. LOL! And at least 4-5 times over last 4 years to explore different parts of Penang. The beaches, the countryside for the farms, the food, and the shopping!

I've driven to penang quite a few times, mostly during durian season [bounce1]  good to hv own car to roam around msia

Agreed, indeed nice to have own car to venture around msia, but must know where to roam also then is fun.

My last trip start around 12 midnight and reached Penang in the morning, just nice to take morning ferry to the island for breakfast.

Drove there almost every year (except those years that kids have major exams).

Wife (only) loved the "old tree" durians and assam laksa at balik pulau.

Also there is a coffee shop selling freshly juice nutmeg.

Always buy 5 big bottles for the trip back.

I'd take the easy option, spend a little more for a 1 hour flight, get down and start running amok around Penang until night.
Rest and then continue next day.

The furthest I'd venture with own car is Melaka and I'm already exhausted with the 2+ hours of highway driving, not excusing those jams at customs.

on one my trips to penang, I was at a durian farm and I met a KL couple that live n work in SG. They flew fm SG to Penang n rented a car to get around. They were shocked that I drove there fm SG alone [laugh]

the way I see it, I can stop by many places along the way. KL, Ipoh, or even venture to Thailand. That's if time allows.

but yeah different strokes for different folks

It's not as stressing as one would think to drive to penang.

Did that twice in last few years. My family enjoys it.

But I must stress that the vehicle played a part in the comfort level.

Long trip vehicle confirmed played an important part, whether it is for passenger or driver. Even driving from sg to malacca.

Sg to Malacca is not long. It is only about 200+km.

Not long but still vehicle play an important role.

Because in SG, from Jurong to Changi is only 30km so anything more is long distance. [laugh]

On public holidays, my round island ride is about 120km.
