yup... partly becos of this reason, despite my parents' age, my wife and i still let them help out with some things in the house, like cooking, washing, marketing, laundry, etc.

i was even toying with the idea of letting my father drive my daughter to school every morning 2 yr ago, but didn't proceed with it (I don't let my father drive at night)...

Let them have some routines that they feel they are contributing so that they will continue to feel useful. If everything no need them to do, think will also be a problem...

Or let him go vacation with his friends.

I believe pappy have enough funds to help the elderly but all the money used on stupid thing ............

Paying themselves millions every year for 14 years is already the stupidest thing.

Luckily, our DACHman always not in the heat..

No piak syndrome...

It's just a forum.

You let your life be affected by anonymous dislikes, people with different views, and people you never met before?

This is not my first forum and social media platform.

I have seen worse groups of people in other forums.

Actually, my father is 84. He has in fact been going to China quite a fair bit, as we still have relatives there. E.g. every year Qing Ming, he will go back and climb the mountains to pray to ancestors...

but i told him he should stop those 'hiking' from next year onwards. Don't wanna worry about him doing such activities at this age...

Thought they are going to review the retirement age from 62 to older?

Good for him, at the age 84 still can travel and even hike. I wish i can be like him if i can live past 80.

Frankly speaking living after 80 is not much grace left or "Utility Life" for lack of a better word  for most majority; Some will live to tell like Mahathir (but how many??) can really make it well independently after that number, most of us will have some kind of short comings like hearing impairment, bone fractures (osteo), blindness, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), memory loss (but never loses her ability for fault finding though) , cant even walk in the sun, falling sick at the slightest of weather change, incontinence.... I think in time to come Adult diaper will be more hot selling than babies ones ....... I'm sure the list goes on.........

Not to mention if you got diabetes or blood pressure (which is very hard to predict) which then makes things even worser or Cancer even; and the biggest nightmare of all is ...... STROKES...... ; I'm sure Bro @Carbon82 know well what I mean

I'm saying this cos my Mum @ 83  has diabetes for last 50 years and blood pressure issues for last 10 years     ; govt has ramped up heavily of late Geriatric care facilities in all the hospitals of late but still seems like a looooong queue too for appts and not enuff docs

Agreed, wonder how many people who live past 80 would still be healthy, alert, independent and mentality good. Not being pessimistic, but i think many people even after 40s can have all kind of short comings gradually or suddenly. Since i have heard so much that people not even reach their old age already kana diabetes, blood pressure, cancer, stroke, IBS, hearing impairment and blindness etc. So when a person reached old age, these shortcoming inevitable would happen de.

Social networks are important in maintaining cognitive and mental health.

So those void decks, elderly activity centers, are important.

Many of the active elderly, those very well adjusted one (provided their body is strong), always go out to meet friends etc.

The only type of socialisation i don't approve of is meeting at coffeeshop every morning to lim beer [laugh]

Lim liao Jin fast up lorry

Saw this thread and got me thinking about an incident that occurred at my office today.

A long time hard worker collapsed in the office halfway through a meeting. She was sent to the hospital.

Very hardworking, work very long hours and I hardly sees her take long leaves. High Post and high 5 fig mthly salary. Ambulance suspected her had a stroke.

Got me thinking today if, life is all abt work and money. How much is enough and how high shd I climb and when shd I start to go slow. Do u want to be like her?

My heart says just go slow and enjoy life, I no longer that young anymore and at most another 30 yrs and Coe reach liao. Today's incident really got me thinking hard...

Just sharing...

Sometimes it's the flow of the job. You are in that post, the job nature requires it. You cannot decide to "go slow", drop some duties, or decide some things are not important and don't do them, because it's not your company and there are others above.

The only way for that person to go slow and enjoy life, probably will be to quit the job. It's not possible to stay in the company and request for a lower position to have lesser responsibilities and shorter hours.
